    Considering a new video card

My debates so far have been between the GTX 560, Radeon 6870, and the GTX 560 TI. to be honest I am looking for a card the is good and still runs cool. My Radeon 4890 idles at about 75-77 and loads at around 80-110. I was wondering about the xfx twin fan setup vs the one fan on the Radeon 6870 as I'm assuming the twin fan runs cooler. For the GTX 560's I heard the MSI twin frozr's run really cool but I think I want to stick with EVGA as I hear they have really good customer support. Any input would be appreciated, thanks everyone.

If anyone knows any other good performing video cards that run cool around 200ish range I'm open to suggestions.

I've been happy enough with my 6870, though if you're not particularly rushed AMD is supposed to be bringing out 28nm process cards before the end of the year. nVidia is supposed to be a little behind them, with cards showing up early next year for their next gen.

just curious but you are talking about your temps in centigrade correct? for some reason those seem a little high to me? I only ran a GTX260 but under full load for an hour it never once got above 65C on stock cooling (had about 5-6 case fans?) I'm not sure, seems a little high to me is all.

My 560 runs TERA at max with an fps of 50(Dungeons)-70 at all times if that helps your decision at all! Runs at about 64 C.

I spent about $110 on my GTX 460 (SC, 1GB), and everything performs just fine on higher settings. I have it OC'd to 930/1860 with memory clock @ 1993 and it's quite a powerhouse for a single GPU. Default speeds are 763/1526, 1900 memory for SC edition, and 675/1350, 1800 memory for vanilla GTX 460. Heat reaches 63-65c at max load OC'd.

GTX 460 is a very capable card when it comes to overclocking. If you do voltage tweaks, you can get it even higher than what I have mine posted at.

Don't get a 400 series if you are buying now, get a 500 series or a 68xx. The 500's run a little cooler and quieter than 400s, which alone is worth its weight in gold imo.

No that's about right. My 5770s go between 79-96C depending on fan speeds at full load. Wait for the new AMD cards and grab two 6870s. Win.

Whoops, didn't even notice OP was looking for cards in the $200 range! If that's your budget, definitely disregard the 460 and acquire mad bitches with the 500 series.

This. I have a GTX 470 in my box and I can assure you, cool and quiet are two adjectives that need not apply. On the bright side though, it kept my bedroom nice and toasty last winter without needing to turn the heat on.

Any estimate on when the new AMD cards are coming out? Was debating on if I should keep my video card for some time and get an I7 - 2600k from my AMD quad 9850. BTW thank you so much on the input so far it is very much appreciated.

Around December. They will try to push them out early but nvidias are being delayed so ya never know now.

All I know is my next card(s) will probably be AMD. They are really rocking right now, and now that I'm powering a 2560x1600 single display I think I want the extra memory.

Although the new chips in the nvidias are supposed to be sick >.> Lucky for me I can wait. Gonna do the whole trade up thing lol. Put my current cards on ebay as a 7day auction 6 days before the new cards come out, with 3-5day for processing. Old card sells, but still runs my system till the new ones come in the mail, swap them out and ship the old ones in the box the new ones came in. Its like borrowing graphics cards!

I haven't seen any actual street dates given, just that they intend to push things out this year. Historically, the 6850/6870 came out mid/late October last year. It wouldn't surprise me to see something similar, with higher and lower end products trickling out well into 2012.

Not to hijack this thread, but I was currently looking at doing SLI with this card when I started putting my computer together

but it seems a lot of people are saying go with the 500 series instead? Is there one comparable in performance and price in the 500series that would be recommended over this one?

The PNY 560 is $20 more. And from what I hear, the 500s are universally more cool/stable than the 400s.

I'd toss the Sapphire Toxic 6950 into the ring also if you're willing to get closer to $300
