Sorry, but it bothers me that no one seems to know what digital means. Digital data does not need to be stored on a hard drive/etc; it can be encoded into christmas lights. Any data that is stored as 1/0s, high/low, on/off, etc is digital, including audio CDs.

This isn't entirely true; I see more iPhones used than any other phone in Sweden. Soon as a new iPhone model is released, it's sold out within ours. Hell, iPad is sold out within hours as well. They take preorders on said items, and unless you have a preorder, odds are you won't get one.

Android is very popular too, but I'd wager a guess and say there's about as many iPhone users as Android and Blackberry users combines - at least in Sweden, don't know how it looks in the states.

In my area everyone had Droids and bberrys until iPhone hit verizon. Now i only know maybe a handful of people without an iPhone. People love those bberry chatroom things especially in emergency services.

Regardless of how you feel about Apple as far as a brand/products/fan-boys, this move will have significance. It might mean a shift of influence in the consumer computing world.

I'm sorry, but you can't compare a paradigm shift in sciences to the reshuffling of ideas you see in the domain of engineering. It's just not on the same level.


For 3d (and everything else discussed in this thread), it was technological constraints (ie: computers not powerful enough) that were holding us back, not the lack of desire to do something like that. Steve Job's Apple didn't do shit to improve computer and push the technological limitation, they just put together the hardware as soon as it was available.

Using Android as an example doesn't really work since this is more about the manufacturer of the smartphone itself.

Edit: There are tons of conflicting reports apparently. Some people say Nokia holds the spot still and some people say Apple does.

....the list for 2008 shows nokia outbeat the iphone and yes 2009 iphone outbeat them by 5 mil,

my point was that comparing the iphone to a blackberry is silly and that a better comparison is nokia to iphone. blackberries aren't even remotely close to nokia sales.

I have to say while I don't currently have a nokia I've had a few in the past and love their phones. They're cheap and you could drive over them with a military tank without them breaking. Not really important, but I just wanted to say it. XD

Apple is number one in smartphones with a one year old single model phone. Samsung is next. Nokia is third and soon to be worse. They lost almost 500 million euro last quarter alone. Nokia might get bought out and switch to Windows 7 at this rate.
