BG Cops: Radar/Speeding ticket help needed!

Yeah, second Jehryn's comment about cops loving to go to court. A really good friend of mine is a county cop in Northern VA, and he said as much when we were talking a little bit at lunch once, including the whole overtime for court because the dates listed on tickets are almost always when the issuing officer is not on a shift.

Are you kidding? Cops (at least in CA) can declare hours spent in court as overtime pay.

Also OP, it sounds like the higher-ups in your company are dicks and you should consider not being in too much of a hurry for them from now on.

Every ticket I have ever gotten has gone straight to a lawyer (85 in a 55, 81 in a 55, 68 in a 55, 105 in a 75, two stopsign/stoplight violations, and a careless and wreckless) and I have 0 points against my license. Point of the story? Pay the lawyer fee, he'll do his job and you wont have to worry about shit like this. Btw you don't have to waste your day going to court either.

At least the Sheriff's office I work for, they do a lot of rotating 12 hr shifts. 3 on 2 off 2 on 3 off, so depending on the week, can be OT or just normal time.

Officer didn't show me any radar, on the ticket only thing listed was a box that said "radar/laser" inside the box he wrote "834".

Went to court, brought the trainee with me as a witness judge listened to our side and the cops, he was vary vague on the details, said he eyeballed the speed by using the light poles as a marker, judge stated due to my job and lack of any other violations he believed what I was saying and gave me a in the future make sure to obey all traffic laws speech and dismissed the ticket. Thanks to the people who chimed in.

I had that done to my last ticket. The first thing that the judge asked in court was 'how many people are pleading to have their ticket dismissed on account of a good driving record?' and like half the court raised their hand.

All we had to do was sign a form that says something along the lines of 'under penalty of law, I have not been given a ticket nor attempted to get a ticket dismissed in the past 3 years.' I filled it out, gave it to the judge when I was called, listened to my violation, paid my court fee, and I was out of there with no questions asked. And this was for doing 92 in a 65.

Essentially, what I took away from that is you can get a ticket dismissed if it's been more than 3 years since your last ticket. And you don't act like a tool to the cop/judge.

And as someone who lives in Los Angeles—who has been to court multiple times and over various issues—I can tell you that it isn't bullshit. They can claim overtime? So the fuck what? They're already getting overtime being stretched thin across every fucking part of the state, especially in heavily populated areas like Los Angeles. And when the rich people are going to pay their tickets because they don't give a flying fuck, why should they show up?

Depends on state, and judge.... mostly depends on the judge.

I got a ticket from a fellow officer (state trooper), its my first moving violation in my 6 year driving career for speeding (85 in a 55)...... and I had to pay the citation with no points after trying to challenge it.

I just got my first ticket in the last 8 years the Sunday of 4th of July weekend. 71 in a 50 (it was a stupid highway connector that drops speed limit from 70-50 then back up to 70 in like a quarter mile). So I was only speeding technically for like 20 seconds before the speed limit went back up to 70.

was $268, I don't have time in my schedule to go to court so I just paid it. Way I figure it is I drive like the wolf from pulp fiction so if I only get caught once every 7 or 8 years no big deal. If I got caught every time I sped I could probably pay off our national debt quicker than any plan congress could come up with.

I'm pretty cautious and aware of my surroundings and don't speed in stupid places (corners, hills, night time) I just got lazy when I got caught
