So I went back and looked at the old Q preview again and what Misato said

Shinji Ikari awakens. Beside him stands a mysterious boy. And then, a new world waits for him

Guess that was a sign of the time skip.

So I went and saw it today finally, been sold out all weekend and even was today (Monday) for the shows after work. Not wanting to spoil anything but if anyone has specific questions ask. My suggestion is to just wait for it I guess, you'll know why when you see it. Overall I enjoyed it, but won't be seeing it again in theaters.

Hope the 4th one doesn't take three years to release and is less of a mind fuck though...

People around me were pretty disappointed, visibly and verbally, lol. Makes me wonder how many people haven't seen the original series and movies and are just watching these because of all the hype surrounding Eva lately.

Really, if you have not seen any of the original material I can't see how these movies can really be that enjoyable. Loving them though!

The whole time I was questioning every theory I had about this series of movies, wondering "why are we doing this AGAIN?" when I had thought Shinji had finally manned up at the end of 2.22. And, to go along with the "next cycle" theory, Shinji is probably thinking the same thing right now.

As a stand alone movie it left a lot to be desired, but as set up for the finale it was terrific. 4.0 cant come fast enough, and hurray for Ode to Joy's comeback.

I went and saw it again last night with a friend who asked me to join her and... I think I really don't care much for this film. More than mind-fucking "what the fuck?!" it's more along the lines of "...why? The fuck?". Will buy the 3.33 Bluray to keep my collection going but hope 4.0 is a lot better.

Why the hell didn't Misato's people just talk to Shinji instead of treating him like a serial rapist the second he wakes up? Fuck, wasn't Misato ENCOURAGING him to save Rei and follow his heart and all that at the end of 2.0? With a 15 minute conversation explaining what happened and what Gendo is trying to do now, they could have prevented the entire film. Instead they just had Auska try to punch through a wall and leave Shinji with more questions and a bomb on his neck.

During the entire film I was waiting for that "something" that would give this movie its place in this new series, but for me it never came. It ended the same way 2.0 did but without the awesomeness that the Shinji saving Rei character development brought about.

P.S. The flying ship was pretty dorky, "Shinji walking in on Rei naked" throwback to the anime fan service scene was ridiculous, the Shinji Kaoru piano scene was embarrassing, and I'm still buying the Bluray because fuck, its Eva.

P.P.S. Anyone else think there is a lot of potential for a 26 episode anime series about the events during the 14 years following the semi-third impact? Hope they do something with that, sure there is lots to tell

The last one will be the pinnacle of anime after 3 gave it such a fantastic setup.

Haven't seen those interviews, explains a lot though, thanks. Guess time will tell, but it definitely seems like Anno is going all in with this.

Maybe I just liked the direction 2.22 took way too much, even the soundtrack in 3.0 seemed lacking compared. He's got me hooked for sure though, crazy motherfucker. Can't wait to see whats in store for the "finale".
