Dress advice needed

Can I hijack the thread a bit? Similar question.

My friend is getting married this weekend and I'm still not set on what to wear as a male guest. I don't own a full suit, and I don't want to go buy one. I was thinking about wearing slacks, dress shirt tie, and a suit vest, however going with black/white people say you look too waiter like. For men, are brighter colors ok? or should I stick with gray/white/black/navy?

Colored dress shirts are fine. I bought a suit a few months ago, and the guy at Men's Warehouse said so. I went with darker shirts, though. Always been my preference. Dressing for weddings as a guy is really easy. If you have a suit, wear it. If you don't get as close to wearing a suit as you can.

As far as the OP goes, I think that dress will be fine. Guest wardrobe isn't a huge concern for most people, so just dress nicely but conservatively and you'll be fine.

A red dress shirt would be fine as well, warc. That's what I wore to a wedding a couple of weeks ago, though I had on a suit.

I think that slacks, a dress shirt and a tie would be fine. No one will probably care, since you're a guest.

I just did slacks, dress shirt, and tie for a spring wedding (mid May). Felt a little awkward but my suits were at my parents and I didn't have time.

Honestly, blue or white shirt. Don't go too bright and fancy with your shirt if you don't have a suit to match well with it.

Don't wear white. Black is okay as long as you have colourful accessories.

Don't wear a solid loud colour, like bright red.

Usually softer colours are okay but black is fine.

Try to avoid wearing any colours of the wedding. That's very tacky looking.

Don't wear anything that makes you stand out more than the bride. You will be hated.

Anything at about the knee or longer is generally okay. Don't go shorter. Avoid strapless. Spaghetti straps are usually okay as long as you're not showing a lot of cleavage (possible bride show up).

Wear something that is comfortable enough to suffer through at least half a day in.

Put your hair up or wear it loose. No ponytails.

For the OP - as far as I'm concerned, you look awesome. Find some nice heels that are comfortable enough to walk around and stand in if needed be. I'm a photographer (I shoot lots of weddings), and trust me, you'll fit in beautifully.

What's so hard about getting something like this? It doesn't have to be super custom made, or italian or anything crazy like that. Go to Aldo, get some decent shoes, and find a nice suit. For the most part, you can get a suit for about 300-ish that's very nice, reasonable, and will be with you for a long time. Suits are a great investment for anything. I have 4 suits of my own, and all are used with my job. Trust me, it's a worthwhile investment.

I think what you want to wear is fine, the slacks and vest should be a solid, traditional color but feel free to spice it up with the shirt and tie combo.

Also, yeah at some point you might want to buy a full suit. Men look good in suits.

For the most part, you can get a suit for about 300-ish that's very nice, reasonable, and will be with you for a long time. Suits are a great investment for anything. I have 4 suits of my own, and all are used with my job. Trust me, it's a worthwhile investment.

If you invest in a suit, please don't put down $300. What you end up getting is not an investment, it's $300 you'll want back for the rest of your life. If you're financially limited, go to a thrift store or something and purchase a second hand suit or jacket for $50, and save up for something that you can wear for a long time.

It may not be super high end, but I got my suit and jacket at Macy's for about $400. Being that I use it maybe once a year, that's about how much i'd want to spend personally.

There are plenty of places out there that you can get a decently made suit that are sub 500 bucks, seriously.

My suits were about 400/each, and all I had to do is take them to a tailor, and have them adjusted to fit me better - after the alterations, probably more about 550 or so, but I was able to walk out with something that fit me properly, and looked good.

a 300 buck suit is definitely going to look better than a 50 dollar throwaway (unless you get lucky) found in Goodwill. The negative in Goodwill is that you're at the mercy of whatever people deem they don't want anymore, or has been worn so many times and then "retired" to Goodwill.

Unless you somehow get lucky and find a suit for 50 bucks at goodwill that's never been worn, but those situations are far and few in between.

Like I said, I own 4 suits of my own - for various occasions, weather types, and colors.
