If you're concerned about "looking better than the bride", you should probably go in a burqa - anything more revealing and everyone will hate you.

Since the topic of tailoring has come up...

I had bought 2 suits after college (graduated in 05) for interviews and such. I got an office job but the dress code is very lenient. I usually wear a dress shirt and tie, but a lot of us tend to dress down on Fridays. I've worn jeans and sneakers to work when I've been too lazy to iron. So, needless to say, the suits have been sitting in my closet for several years.

My fiancee and I recently went out to dinner where a jacket was required so I figured I'd wear one of my suits. I forgot to take into account that I've lost a good 50 lbs since I bought them, so when I tried one on it looked like I was wearing a robe or a cape. Out of curiosity, would I be able to get my suits tailored to fit me or is the change in size too drastic to make it worth it?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

yes. You can always shrink down clothing with next to no problem (well for a tailor at least XD). The issue is when you want it made larger than there is cloth.

When you take it to a tailor ask for their pricing. Sometimes the pricing may "change" if they had to do something to it they didn't expect (kinda like a car mechanic). But the fees are usually a flat fee. (ie. 10$ to hem a skirt no matter the skirt/size etc.)

suits are pretty delicate inside, it might be better to just get a new one for aesthetic reasons. the important thing is, grats on losing all that weight!

I have a wedding to go to this weekend too! I usually stick to a cocktail dress, on the conservative side. I keep the bride in mind when I shop for a dress to wear. Definitely don't want to "outshine" her. Luckily, this bride is hot and skinny, so I can pretty much wear what I want. Going to stick to a neutral color though, I feel like pink or red would piss her off, LOL.

Coming in late, but if the wedding's in November then a longer dress would be most appropriate, especially with something covering the shoulders for the ceremony if it's in a church (though your call). If you're not part of the main wedding party and have time to kill between ceremony and reception, you can also do two outfits. One more formal for the ceremony, then the other a little more party for the reception (again, depending on what you think the reception will be like)

In a not-so-subtle hint that my wardrobe could use an update from highschool, my girlfriend linked me to this last night. It's sort of a compendium of guys shopping websites.

As long as it fits over the shoulders you should be able to get it slimmed. If it's a tent in general you're probably screwed.

You guys have been great help. I'm going to bring my black cocktail with a shawl and a long, simple, sleeveless maroon dress as an alternative and see what fits better. At least one of those two should be appropriate for sure.

Soia & Kyo has coats that sit absolutely amazing, that is if you want a real nice cut and not just to brand whore.

    EDIT:

Also, what's with all the suggestions for pinstripe and navy suits? Grey or gtfo.
