It can't be done client side because most of the time the client has no idea about specifics. For example, the client knows you have Minuet buff, but nowhere client-side is it indicated how much attack you got from it. Another buff example, all food is displayed the same way on the client (just the food icon) and the server takes care of all the stats calculation. There's other things, as well (hidden effects and latent effects, etc.).

Anyways, I don't think packets would be the issue here (have you seen inventory packets?), but more likely "we have to actually dedicate someone to moving stuff around in the UI to display these somewhere and update them on packets received".

You can move around various windows in new UI holding control and shift i think it was, if not those two it was another combination. most things i clicked the lock icon to set them in place would unlock after a while.i was able to move all 3 bars of macros at one point but after a while they kept snapping to the far left but i could move them up and down as far as i wanted. I like the radar section displays ur pos in real time as u move around it changes.

A lot of it looks pretty nice and cool but I will wait for it to be a bit more refined or labels and details to be added so we know what a button is without pressing it to find out, or even instructions on how to use it via the main site. the new magic menu was cool but what i dont like is how it displays all magic types. if i am geo/rdm i dont want to have to scroll down my list to get to the geo types everytime. also there was no memory option yet. where it remembers where you were in a spell list like ours does now.

Considering that this is on the test server, and involves an in-development feature, the unappealing design is to be expected. Most likely, layout and/or functionality has not been finalized, which means that the final graphics have yet to be created and implemented. Substance before style is the smart way to go, and that's what they're doing here. If it were the other way around, I would be concerned.

Can you have an onscreen minimap? I'm looking at the one screenshot there with the fullscreen map list, that has the smaller version near the bottom.

Better than nothing I guess. One of my pet peeves with XI is that widescreen resolutions get fucked on viewing the zone map's full size like 4:3 can, since you're basically getting half the vertical viewing space cropped out when zoomed out as much as you're allowed to. Also makes region maps a bitch to quickly look info up since it's so damn zoomed in compared to how it is on my PS2.

There's a minimap lua addon in development and it looks fantastic, but I wonder how that (and all the other addons) will work out with this new UI, if there will be issues breaking compatibility with Windower and addons and such.

Did some testing with the monstrosity changes on the test server.
Gestation no longer wears off after 10 seconds. Seems to last until you take it off like they said it would at some point. Instincts are no longer removed when you change species. Anything that goes over the limit will be taken off however if you switch to a lower lvl monster.

Gnole: Alpha mode (name will be changed supposedly) is a TP move that costs 30 TP. Using it will switch between four-leg and standing modes. Using it again will go back to the previous mode. Gaining a lvl resets to four-leg mode, unsure if this is a bug intentional. In standing mode, you gain access to Nox Blast, Asuran Claws and Cacaphony at least at lvl 30. However you lose access to Fevered Pitch, but keep Plenilune embrace. Nox blast is 150 TP darkness damage, TP reset and knock-back. Damage is pretty awful for a 150 tp move did around 30-60 damage to DC pugils. Didn't test with any MAB instincts. Asuran Claws only did around 200-300 damage to DC-IT mobs. Cacophony is 1 min Haste and counterstance. Haste seems to be over 15% since it overwrites slow from spiders. Not sure on counterstance rate, does not lower def despite the icon saying it does, assuming they just used the player version for the icon.

Other notable things: Gnole is now MNK/MNK instead of WAR/WAR, only swings once in 4-leg mode but does have counter, swings twice in 2-leg mode. Attack and acc are lower in 2-leg mode for w/e reason, went from 212 attack in 4-leg to 182 in 2-leg. Acc unsure but it was enough to go from "IT low evasion" to just "IT" on a Dhalmel in east altepa. Base damage seems to be lower too as I was swinging for around 100 in 4-leg vs DC pugils and only 30-40 in 2-leg, which is only 60-80 a round. I don't think the dip in attack would be enough for that to be the only factor, especially on a DC mob.

While alpha mode or w/e they end up calling it is cool, it kinda makes gnole worse in some regard lol. Don't have wamoura unlocked so couldn't test it.

Buff/debuff potency has nothing to do with overwrite priority.

That boar...maybe Kujata? Or is it year of the Pig or something?

Is that dude King August? I forgot if the Adoulin family is Elvaan or not. Ygnas and Arciela are Humes. The naming convention of the Adoulin family is peculiar.

    Ygnas S Adoulin
    Aciela V. Adoulin
^That name convention is very elvaan with the middle initial but yet he is Hume. Also the fact that Adoulin supposedly has a lot of Dragoons which is a Sandorian thing. Also the whole royal thing is a very elvaan kind of government.

id say he's hume because his descendants are. i also thought the middle names were more a commonality in royalty moreso than elvaan. it just happens that there arent any hume nobility left in the middle lands.

furthermore Hume is dominant in Adoulin (35%) at present so it may be historically relevant

edit: im guessing the pig (which will eventually have a battle model) is the unique SoA beast mob.

each type has at least 1 new unique mob.
    Vermin - Chapuli / Twitherym
    Lizard - Matamata
    Aquan - Craklaw
    Bird - Tulfaire
    Plantoid - Snapweed

I can't find anything in the NA or JP weapon .dats, but I'm going through them by hand (not automated).

From the artwork there should be another new beast type mob -- a tiger/panther looking thing. I can see Siren/Kujata being this expansion's avatars. Kujata represents manifold elements and would be an interesting boss fight and would be advantageous to have a RUN or two. I can see Kujata being a fight whereby he switches elements mid fight at certain HP% and uses strong elemental AoE with which a RUN would have to suppress.

Regarding the pig looking mob, he says this on the page..

"too bad so far its only an NPC and not a mob"

Could it be an avatar? Shoat? Kujata?

Run would have a hard time if it switches elements... heck already takes 2 just for 1 element full time. Probably come down to effort reward thing and people just zerging lol.

Anyways on test server can you adjust your monsters levels in monstrosity?
