There isn't any other gear in the update that is graphically unique/new other than those 3 sets. The rest are all rehashes of what we already have.
For instance:
Whirlwind Dirs
DEF:50 STR+12 INT-12 ≺Element: Fire≻+20
"Double Attack"+3%
Lv.95 THF, PLD, DRK, DRG, BLU
Same model (and oddly enough same jobs) as Homam. No color difference or anything as they are still red.
wtf is this.........ToAU rocked because of simple enough mission for storyline delights, and shit tonnes of pre-L80 end game delights. Salvage, Einherjar, High end assaults, ZNMs...all in a single expansion.
The end game contents are the main highlight to keep everyone able to participate over and over again, reason for a story mission is just for the sake of explaining the expansion origin and thats it.....and hey, toau comes with a nice ring eventually
problem with WoTG is that it focus too much on storyline....wheres the end game for it? idk bro u tell me. doing mission on and off, every 3 months, for 2 years is not exciting at all. i pretty much dont go WoTG zones anymore after the story
main reason people still buy WoTG for their mules now is because its needed to install and play abyssea
nice one SE nice one
The storyline content in ToAU sucked. Should have kept the level caps with the level sync to deal with the downsides.
Only the missions designed for 75's were entertaining...
Yeah, WotG doesn't even begin to compare to ToAU. ToAU has a ton of sub-systems and basically *was* endgame for like ~4 years. WotG was a place that you went to skill up weapons in campaign (until that was nerfed).
WotG, Lowbies: Colibri camp, and other XP camps people didn't use.
WotG, Endgame: DI, Sandworm, (ANNMs), and Campaign BCs
ToAU, Lowbies: Nothing
ToAU, Endgame: Salvage, ZNM, Einherjar, Pankration, ISNMs, Beastkings, Mythics, Assaults, and Ashu Talif BCs.
I bracketed ANNMs because while ISNMs were awesome for a long time, ANNMs were forgotten in two weeks.
WotG's main problem was that it catered to a lowbie crowd too many years after release. Now it's totally worthless thanks to FoV, GoV, and Abyssea.
WotG absolutely blew hardily, but if we were to focus purely on the missions and narratives, ToAU falls quickly from grace. I did the ToAU missions as they were released, and all I remember is wait until the JP midnight, wait until JP midnight, hey look! thirteen missions later and there's a fight!, oh, but it's easy... another fight!, wait until JP midnight... You get the idea. And this might just be a subjective thing, but Naja Salaheem was one of the most irritating characters in the game. Granted, WotG has one that's worse, but at least he isn't the central NPC. WotG has its issues in missions as well, but it's definitely drawn out (as it should be after three fucking years), and the branching quests idea was a nice throw back to the original missions.
WotG endgame, on the other hand, is fucking pitiful. No need to mention Pankration to defend ToAU though, come on now.
Pankration was an best way (and still is) to endlessly supply yourself with Jettons for HQ cameras when doing ZNM. I don't know that I'd put it as end game, but as long as ZNM is relevant, Pankration is just as relevant.
Anything that truly matters? Some people love the game for the lore and storyline/CS. WOTG had the best CS's in the game and a really good story compared to TOAU which was mega rushed in the end, story wise. Also WOTG had a lot of crap that people did all the time like MMM, WOE (gonna be expanded upon), Campaign, BCNMs etc. Not saying its better than TOAU, but it wasn't a complete failure.
You're all missing the grandest irony of all.
The Crystal War erupted in 862 C.E. and lasted until 864 C.E. The Allied Forces of Altana battled the combined armies of the Shadow Lord, known collectively as the Beastman Confederate, in a conflict that raged over both the Quon and Mindartian continents. It is recorded as the longest and bloodiest war in Vana'diel's history.
The Final Fantasy XI "Wings of The Goddess' expansion went live and became playable on November 22, 2007.Wings of the Goddess Missions Finale! (11/11/2010)
At a long struggle's conclusion, the heretofore untold ending to a history-shaping event will finally be revealed!
For the length of time they made us wait, WoTG should have been the entire damn war with the endgame area being Old Tavnazia.
It's talking about vana'diel years, which in essence makes it even worse 'cause the war should have been over dozens of times by now.
WoTG had the best missions/CS/story, ToAU had the best actual play content (Salvage, Assault, ZNM, etc). This is still controversial why?
I have always said to people in my LS that Assaults were the single most original piece of content added to the game. There were so many unique and interesting objectives. So much more than "pop and kill this NM," which has been repeated in endless iterations in Abyssea and Voidwatch and Walk of Echoes, and which will probably be repeated ad nauseum for the remainder of the game's life.
The moment you complete a storyline its rarely if ever revisited for any reason. Any endgame content is going to have a larger impact on the success of an expansion then the storyline. You were right about one thing There were way more people complaining about how shitty WOE was then people who actually did WOE. Campaign was/is still a pretty big failure nobody really did that shit outside of botting for exp, and getting a rose strap. MMM was pretty bad til you duped mazes outside of 1-2 weapons and quirky low leveling it died out pretty fast. I would honestly consider it a complete failure when being compared to any other expansion.
100% agree about assaults, I really wish they had continued to make assaults or assault-like content.
I remember believing Campaign Ops were going to be like Assaults.
...then WOTG happened.
Campaign Ops were Assault's retarded cousin from the bronx. Not only was there no reward for doing any of the harder ones, but they weren't half as interesting even if you did. The hardest Campaign Op I remember doing (pretty sure I did all of them) took something like 5 minutes and basically consisted of casting Sleepga and killing something. Assaults were much better than that bullshit.
WoTG was so terrible that I wouldn't be surprised if it was half responsible for WoW's population spike in 08 with the other half being from the Salvage bans. I knew around 50 XI players from other servers including my own that quit because of how terrible WoTG was and all of them tried WoW out, most of them said they'd never try WoW out but also said that it couldn't be worse than what WoTG was. Many people were merit-capped, skill capped on all of their jobs(before campaign nerf) there was no reason for those people to ever step foot in campaign, it was an utter waste.
I remember LS mates raging on me before we all quit because when they asked for D2's I retraced them to that shitty expansion. I knew one guy that bought the expansion and not once went to the past before deciding it was terrible, he quit a month after it went live.
