    I took a close examine at 'em ingame (vanilla), not seeing any actual modifications to the model. Granted I'm not affected by that slowdown on this machine so I can't confirm/deny anything other than that.

    Would be nice if during all this content revamping that they'd do a proper client update for performance tweaks. This game should be able to run on a decent netbook, but nope. ;/

    This may be due to the fact that there aren't as many players on the test server in comparison to a normal live server which has to deal with a much larger data load.

    Are people seriously dogging Campaign? Granted it started to become slightly redundant a year later when FoV was introduced but it stayed the best way to get XP on the fly until Abyssea alliances and their insanely flexible partying standards showed up. The content of WotG was on the whole rolled out way too slowly and Campaign itself had problems, but it gave a viable method for high-level solo XP without compromising the rest of the game, and was exactly what FFXI still needed after the close of ToAU.

    I agree with the desire for a "holy shit war" impact in WotG; ToAU feels more militarily tenuous than WotG and I'm not sure that was the hope.

    The best way to get EXP while not actually in a party, sure, and that's the problem. It was an excellent thing to do while you had nothing else to do, which isn't really something to do at all now is it?

    I'm not knocking the usefulness of Campaign because lord knows I've spent hours and hours doing it, but there is a pretty bold line between "useful" and "enjoyable." Especially when people would grab a mob and drag it to a zoneline to gimp it down slowly and prolong a fight while people looked for that one guy.

    I've never seen this conflux lag that people always tell me about.

    It depends on your PC and your drivers, but trust me, it exists ._.;

    Not to mention that people don't like to be forced to do content. If you wanted to keep your Medals up, you had to do campaign. That meant that it was never some fun extra thing that you could do for XP, it was a chore that you had to do or you were punished. Even after they made it so that you wouldn't lose ranks based off of quest completion, the text is so passive-aggressive that I don't even feel like going into the past anymore.

    Games should be fun, not obligations.

    God forbid you couldn't just do 'enough' campaign to not lose your medal when it expires (or have it upgrade), and just never talk to the NPC until you need to do an Ops.

    At least that problem has been mostly addressed nowadays if you keep up on your missions.

    mleh, after looking over 3 pages of WotG/ToAu discussion, I'm disappointed it has nothing to do with the topic =/

    I just upgraded PCs and the lag is gone, by far my favorite thing about the new comp.

    I have a fairly new PC and still have lag on some confluxes, so it doesn't always fix the problem to have modern hardware. :/

    Afaik the problem lies with a lot of new GPUs? Sometimes using old/beta drivers help though.

    And it only took three years for them to do that. (WotG was released November 22, 2007, the update where you no longer lost medals was December 8, 2010.) People get burnt out from being forced to do content, especially when the content is not very rewarding. When Campaign was first introduced, I used to run to get my Medals as soon as they were available; I was tired of that shit after about two years on that treadmill with two characters.

    I used to gear RDM/WAR up incredibly slowly and then go fight for like 3k XP and give up again. Thank god we don't lose rank anymore.
