Even with big names like Spike Lee, Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, and Samuel Jackson, FilmDistrict’s Oldboy scored one of the weakest Thanksgiving openings of all time, estimating a dismal $850,000 in five days, though the film bowed at just 583 locations (not technically a wide release), Variety reports.

This continues the awful weekend for the film shrouded in negative press.

Even with the negative press and weak reviews, it’s a shocker to see the film get such a small release, and even more bizarre to see it not even pull in $1M over the course of a whopping 5 day holiday weekend. This has easily got to be one of the biggest flops in recent memory. Ouch.

I like Josh Brolin. I really do. From being Brandon in Goonies to the dirty cop in American Gangster. But this was trouble from the jump and I hope it doesn't bring him down.

About The Departed, yes I know it was based on Infernal Affairs, but it was also heavily based on Whitey Bulgur and the Irish mob.

I know this is kind of a necro, but I just saw the 2013 version today. I understand why he was held captive, but why did Pryce have so many other captives? I believe in one shot, when the chinese food isn't being fed to them on time, there are multiple cameras shown showcasing everyone looking for their food.

While I'm unfamiliar with the original, I plan on watching it soon since I enjoyed it and I thought Josh Brolin was great in this

The other captives were from other clients, Pryce was just one client using the warehouse.

For anyone that hasn't seen this and actually wants to, it's on Netflix now.

I went into this having seen the original (loved it) and expecting the worst. Well, it lived up to my expectations. I didn't really care for Brolin or the story changes that were made. The hammer act of the movie was also shit compared to the original, I couldn't help but laugh at one of the guys swinging at Brolin from far out of range. Also didn't understand the lack of blood during that part considering how much is shown in other parts of the movie.

Oh, and fuck Spike Lee for showing an octopus in a fish tank at a restaurant but not following through with the scene from the original.

Yeah, watched this last night and wasn't completely horrible, but felt kinda choppy. But that could be because the rumor is Spike Lees version is almost an hour longer than the theatrical cut. On the plus side, Elisabeth Olson has a decent pair of tits.
