Why wouldn't PS2 people have access to a pc?

They might or might not. But 100% of the people who play on PC have access to one. (likewise, the people who post on PC forums are going to be selected primarily from those people who play on PC)

no, I think I'll always remember the comments I read several years ago that said PS2 usage was much more prevalent in japan over PC for cultural reasons (PC being for non-gaming purposes mainly). I don't know how accurate this comment is now, but it has always stuck with me. I can't imagine a time when they'll ditch PS2.

PS2 users would by the nature of the hardware have to be some of the oldest most reliable customers SE has.....actually, typing this out, they may be the easiest to convince to switch due to years of playing and not wanting to lose that part of their life. Percentage wise they might be more likely to swap to another platform just to keep that addiction going than say killing xbox support.

Part of a county in Virginia doesn't have internet access actually (staying with someone that lives there presently =(, had to come to a library to check email and whatnot)

So what's the problem? The game was designed for dial-up. And tethering the smartphone's internet is also a viable option. 3G is good enough to play XI with, I do it all the time while out of town.

So what's the problem? The game was designed for dial-up. And tethering the smartphone's internet is also a viable option. 3G is good enough to play XI with, I do it all the time while out of town.

Most laptops nowadays don't have dialup jacks (although I'm guessing you can buy adapters?). As for smartphones, I don't personally have one, but don't you typically have to pay for a certain amount of data usage? Guessing playing an online game would eat that up pretty fast if that is the case. EDIT: Okay, it sounds like the problem is it just being pretty stupidly expensive to get a data plan that supports that.

Either way though, they actually are getting Comcast fairly soon (hopefully by the end of the month). I was simply refuting the fact that the lack of internet indicates one's presence in a 3rd world country; that's just not completely true.

I have a laptop I got several years ago but it's hardware isn't optimized for gaming, anything from after 2001 runs for shit.
My launch PS2 plays FFXI fine though.

Now, my account costs $13 a month becuase I have 1 mule. Because I use green dot/paypal subscription, there's also another $20 in reload packs a year. (Before this transfer brouhaha, I lost another $60 a year in maintenance fees to the prepaid card)

So, FFXI cost me $236 a year up to now (excluding stuff like the token or add-ons).
If I quit, I could afford a low range PC in two years. Because I am NOT buying a fucking 360 (besides, the analog stick is in the wrong goddamned place on those.)

TWO. YEARS.

Switching to PC is NOT an option for everyone.

The game was designed to run on dialup. Playing FFXI involves a trifling amount of data, something like a couple MB/hour. Even cheapo data plans for a smartphone are 2-3 GB/month.

Jeez. Some people don't like to game on PC. A Swiss Army Knife does about 50000 things but I still use a fork for dinner. Part of the niche of FFXI is its cross-platform ability. How 'bout we live and let live Mr. Internet guy? Also, I look forward to playing XI on the PSVita.
