Airenn posted this in the recommendation thread.
YES THANK YOU FOR POSTING THAT. I JUST saw this thread and I used to be a die hard AMV person. I hardly watched anime, but I'd watch the FUCK outta some AMVs.
That was a good one and then I actually watched the movie. The AMV was very well done and made so much sense having seen the movie. /watching it now.
I'm going to go through this thread and I will possibly have a slew to post depending on if they haven't been posted yet....
Let's do this.
All These were posted but some are front most in my mind when I think of AMV's so I wanted to mention them again.
Jihaku (Warning, THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST)
Skittles (Warning, Epilepsy!)
Tainted Donuts (Old, but wonderful.)
Hold Me Now was posted, but one of my favorites of all time.
Euphoria was also very very well done.
Now for the ones I love.
Well. This one isn't meant to be serious, so I guess it's ok for lip syncing. Trust me, it's amazing.
Kusoyaro's Sappy Self Induldence.
I love Nostromo's Videos. Seriously amazing...
I haven't seen the anime this one is from (mostly) but I would really like to. The song quickly become one of my favorites.
Nostromo-Galaxy Bounce Song: Lifelight by Andy Hunter
Nostromo- Magic Pad
One of my ALL time fave's. I watch it when I'm down.
One of the first ones I saw that got me into AMV's. Old as dirt but probably the best of it's time. VHS baby.
Kevin Caldwell's - Believe (He did a lot with very old tools- Should watch them. Very good for the time.)
This is another good Battle Athletes video. I can't find my favorite-er one that's set to Bryan McKnight's 'Win' though.
I want to make a video like this with some friends! (laugh)

For some reason Miku Miku Dance springs to mind, but I also want to say it's more complex than just feeding it a video and it parrots it. You'll need an honest understanding of 3D animation and motion scripting to do things like that. You could probably reverse engineer stuff and learn that way if you got actual code, though.
If I had to guess it was just 3D models animated in the right program (Maya/Max etc). You need a lot of knowledge to set that stuff up for yourself just to animate, never mind finding or making the models yourself.
Ran it by a few other forums and apparently it's Miku Miku Dance paired with a Kinect. And yes, I have to find the models and learn the scripting.
I haven't been to the Anime section for a while, so glad there's an AMV thread now ^^
I was one of the founders of the ACen AMV contest, but I've been rather out of the loop for a while and it's nice to catch up to some of the recent stuff. I should visit the .org more often, but it's hard to tell sometimes if something is actually good... I used to know a number of the "big name" AMV creators personally, but I'm not sure any of them would remember me since I've been gone for quite a while and never really made any great videos myself (I've made a few, but they're really not that great).
Some of my old favorites that haven't been posted yet:
Another by Kevin Caldwell, Phantom of the Opera using footage from Memories
Odorikuruu
Charging Fort Wagner from Maboroshi
Wonderboy from Sailor Death
Dreams Come True from Kusoyaro
edit: One more, my old link for it was dead >.> Memories Dance from Vlad Pohnert
It's MMD and the animations are done manually, afaik. Very versatile program if you're willing to spend a fuckton of time with it.
Manly tears and major spoilers for Clannad/After Story (I know the song is kind of ehh but it's so fitting):
I'll just post the few that I have favorited.
Germany doesn't allow fun so I can't see this, but this was always a good one, I thought:
The one I had here was a double post, so have this one instead:
Double post. Must have been the alcohol
If Touhou video are allowed...I might post the one I've been listening to in loop for the last 3 months (if you couldn't tell from my avatar)
Folk metal+ drunk chibi get me every time.
I mean...seriously. Is it possible to not smile while watching this?
