Usually whenever someone posts some test info, new info, strategies, whatever, for every person who posts there's usually 2-4 people that are posters (but don't post) who helped them get that information. Blue Mage, Salvage, and Abyssea are examples or a larger community effort to push that information to one common/searchable thread. Some things are handled on a solo basis but I think it largely has to do with the math/parser involvement which some people find intimidating, or not knowing exactly how to test a piece of information out. (Outside of RQT/WB for the FFXI boards, there aren't -that- many posters anyway)

The math specific stuff, yes that's a much smaller group of people and others do seem to tag on to that. The strategy/event/job stuff is more of a community effort and many people add their two cents in to that.

one thing anal/korpg got right is definitely true, though. today's bg is still knowledgeable way before most sites, but only due to the efforts of a much smaller group. don't get me wrong, good info is tested and prevails here, but most of you are just bandwagoners who think you're entitled to some special status because you post here.

reading the official forum posts is good for a laugh, no doubt, but let's be honest. it's not like the quality of bg has risen sufficiently over time to combat the rest of the community's stupidity. it's still pretty much just a few good eggs carrying a bunch of opportunistic wannabes who think they're entitled to bash people who get in their way during the course of play.

So? We're not the ones spreading misinformation or arguing every goddamn little detail until the original purpose of a topic is long-forgotten. It's them, and yes, I am entitled to bash people who are overtly stupid and present themselves as knowledgeable. Who got the correct information is irrelevant as long as they're being given credit where it's due and the information is being spread instead of false information and ideas being spread by those insufferable twats.

Is it ok for them to say things like they don't swap gear? Sure.

Is it ok for them to say things like not swapping gear is the better way to play? Fuck no and I'll be damned if they aren't called on it.

I can't think of a single post wherein someone claimed to be superior because they posted on BG. If there IS a superiority complex (outside of Gimp/Confused or Random Fail because those are more for ANY sort of retardedness or fuckery and less about being superior to anyone posted) it comes almost exclusively at the stereotype planted on posters from here.

Is it possible for people who post here to get a bit defensive when, say, Naturebeckles is arguing that haste isn't needed or useful? Of course. No one ever goes around saying "BG said so, so it must be true!" Posts instead say "here's the math for haste improvements, mathed out by a poster on BG." I think it goes without say that anyone who posts around saying they're awesome because they post on BG would be pretty reviled by the rest of the community here.

Knowledge is king. Math is law. Anyone arguing with those needs to be corrected, sometimes brutally.

Funny how there is a very dedicated group of people who go around proclaiming "BG said so, so it must be false!". After reading the shit in that stack size thread, I'm pretty sure I'm done with the official forums. I mean, ok, these people disagree with how easy others say the game is, getting an Empyrean is hard, finding two friends is hard, starting an exp party is hard, ok, we get it. Want Abyssea capped? Fine. Those are personal problems and opinions. Somebody suggests SE devise a way for us to turn crystals into clusters, and all of a sudden they are arguing logistics? What the fuck, I guess when it suits them they do understand simple math. When people can quote them saying one thing in one thread, then have another quote of them saying the exact opposite in another, simply because they are trying to win an argument with somebody they see as being from BG... fuck that.

It reached the point where I think anybody who isn't a paranoid nut job can see that they are paranoid nut jobs though. They aren't even making coherent statements anymore. Time to block some posters and quit grinding my teeth.

About two months ago, I leveled ninja and when I went to get the weapon skill quest from the NPC i was given the first of many af1 quests for that job and NPC. Now for ninja, absolutely none of the af1 is needed in today's 90+ so I'm pretty miffed about having to do them all just to flag the weapon skill quest, just to process weakness in Abyssea (and also for my own satisfaction of knowing I have all quested weapon skills). Yea the body af1 is ok, but theres much better options available to me (like the af3+2 body for starters). Now this is not like the af1 thf boots or anything remotely close.
