So, if I am reading his blog right, he thinks that since the JP developers cannot contain the rampant cheating going on by North Americans, Square Enix should terminate operations and support of Final Fantasy XI for all North American players.

Hey guys, half our paying customers are big fat cheaters. Lets ban them all and lose more than half of our profits! What? That's not feasible? Well, lets just ban everyone and shut down the servers instead. We're morally obligated to not make money off a game whose customers aren't playing by the rules we invented to cover our asses legally a decade ago.

Reality:
* Like the government, SE is not legally required to enforce any of the rules it makes.
* The right of enforcement is sprinkled throughout the TOS documents, but the most obvious place it's stated is here:

(c) SEI reserves the right to terminate PlayOnline Service in whole or in part for any reason with or without prior notice.
(d) SEI MAY SUSPEND, TERMINATE, MODIFY, OR DELETE ANY PLAYONLINE ACCOUNT AT ANY TIME, WITH ANY REASON OR NO REASON, WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE.

In summary, SE may or may not ban you for breaking or following the TOS. There's no point in waging a holy war against people who use spellcast to automatically swap weaponskill gear in when they WS. If SE has a problem with it, they'll mass ban us and justice will be served. If SE doesn't have a problem with it (the plugin is >5 years old?) or wants to keep getting our money, we'll continue gear-swapping without breaking our keyboards. Windower and its plugins are freely available online to anyone that wants to use them. Try it out. See if it even matters as much as you think it does.

I honestly thought I was the only person playing this game that has actually read the TOS. I've been bringing that clause up in threads for the better part of a decade but idiots over at Alla still think they have some sort of moral foothold on the argument and that SE is required to abide by some made up contract that Alla idiots don't even understand. People want to believe so hard in the fabricated altruistic nature of a business. It's laughable.

edit - ... aaand I just read Starcade's last post. That is clearly an open letter to SE, and he honestly believes somebody there reads his blog. Awesome.

Wow, that's a nice thread. I like how certain people liberally apply SE stating their right to ban you for any and no reason to people doing things they don't morally agree with, when really all that part of the TOS states is that SE can ban you for anything and nothing. Using windower? Banned. Not using windower? Equally banned. There is a huge difference between how it is worded and how they make the intent out to be.
