I'm actually trying to suss out logistics-wise what would be the best approach to the meltdown that is the OF; if mods were in threads saying "that's enough, anything further in this vein is getting hosed", do you think that would help? Is it more of a deterrent knowing that they could ninja-strike? Are the punishments punishy enough, and are they as consistent as its ever possible to be with dealing with subjective shit? What are the rules on cussing/calling people dinglemongers?

On one hand, the fact that the OF are this much of a crazyland is obviously hilarious, and on the other I kinda want to see if it's possible to salvage. Professional interest, I guess. I'm just wondering if having rules in place as we did for old Standard (now in the form of RQT/WB? and the Mathy Parts subforum) would be feasible, but it seems like it would take a more hands-on approach, with mods stepping in with "No you can't do that, we're doing things this way now, and here's how it works."

Regardless whether it's possible to salvage the official forums (and it probably is), fact of the matter is that they won't be saved because the mods are slow to dole out weak punishments and offer no insight into what is/isn't acceptable.

I think the biggest problem is that the mods are hamstrung by SE policies that make it so they have to allow stupid and crazy to keep posting and issue warnings and temp (3 hour) bans to the people that get tired of dealing with stupid and crazy.

Somebody still obtained my picture without permission and, although I have my suspicions on who it might be (if I had proof, they would be in jail by now), I have no evidence. However, and I'm sure your BG friends would argue against me on this, any alteration of any media without sourcing the person who produced said media is plagiarism, which I thought BG was against. But that is besides the point.
