All I can really say is meh. Wasn't a bad premiere, I think the Mare in the Moon, Return of Harmony and Canterlot Wedding were tough acts to follow. Generic story, mediocre villain, and everything overall felt a bit rushed. But on the upside, there's quite a bit of fan fiction material, especially that dark magic Celestia used and Twilight emulated by sight.

No way in hell I can call Sombra mediocre. He didn't do anything and didn't really feel all that threatening. I was hoping when that chip of his horn broke off into the kingdom he's manifest himself, but nope.

One of the Crystal Ponies said "It's the Crystal Princess" while Cadence was in the air. Probably hinting for a future ep were we learn that Cadence is the reincarnation of the Crystal Princess.

and I liked the Episode, my only complaint is that I was annoyed at how Twilight kept thinking it was just a test and nothing bad could happen from it.

Just realized that. By mediocre, I meant dismally generic. Very little dialogue and less screen time than a secondary character. I don't even think a badass villain song could've saved him. But, I can see a lot of potential in fanfiction.
I was thinking the same thing when his horn broke off, but that fell flat too. Maybe there was too much hype for ponies that the premiere could never live up to.

Maybe. Overall it was a good episode, but I was hoping for some more background on Sombra or at least some more info on what Celestia/Luna have in store for Twilight.

My husband and I are both playing the game, he's level 17 I'm level 12 (he was playing this morning while I slept in ^^; ): Hawkpc and MaachaQ

On his android phone (Galaxy SIII) he said time doesn't pass if he exits the game to do anything else. Like, his shops won't produce things and the ponies aren't ready to play. Everything seems to work properly so far on my iPhone (4S) except that I can't visit my husband's town, I'm told that he's running a different version of the game. He is able to visit my town just fine though...

Is there any truth in the rumor about an official Android version coming out soon? Maybe there's an android emulator that could play it then. I'd love to give the game a shot, but I don't have a droid or iOS device.

Already tried out Bluestacks (game crashes) and the official emulator from the Android SDK (OS stutters like hell and it would be hard to get the game in since play store won't work...) because it drains battery like hell ^^;
Only linked through facebook atm, maybe i'll get GL later on when they fix the login problems.

Considering the level of raw characterization and scene-stealing that Discord was, it's probably impossible to have a villain up to that standard now.

That said, did nobody else catch on to Cadence being the crystal princess? Hence her mark having the heart on it and whatnot... How the Crystal Empire has been gone for 1000 years and she's their princess in the present is anybody's guess. Long external bloodline? Precedent of alicorns being practically immortal per Celestia and Luna?

Maybe a thousand years in pony time is like... last month?

Luna just has Vegeta-syndrome.

Yeah, I made the same mistake of linking that fanfic on here when it was still good. How far did you get before Pinkie crying "This isn't canon!" get on your nerves?

The comic looks like it might surpass the story at the rate the artist is going. Considering the fanfic reads like a troll fic that doesn't seem hard.

Ok, over analysis time! Rewatched the season opener this morning stoned, and these might be the hooks into a movie / an actual plot line.

First up; Sombra. Terrifying in allegory. Sombra means shadow in Spanish.
Sombra Negra is Spanish for "Black Shadow". Sombra was a stallion made of black shadows.

Googled Sombra Negra....and well, remember; little girls show. All the ponies where afraid to even remember the time he was King. I may be reaching a little here, but the villian didn't need to have a back story. He just has to be obviously evil and have a good name for later.

Celestia knowing how to use 'dark' magic, the stained glass window in the hallucination, the 'crystal princess', whatever the hell Celestia and Luna are up to. It was exciting as hell provided they actually follow up on all of that.

The comic looks like it might surpass the story at the rate the artist is going. Considering the fanfic reads like a troll fic that doesn't seem hard.

IMO it stopped being good after the first chapter. I liked how it was a harem, but Pinkie Pie and the overall story got on my nerves.

Pinkie's split personality persona wasn't too bad (though the torture scene was a bit too much), but the constant 4th wall breaks and how extreme they were (C'mon, she was aware of S1/S2, the author, and the fact it was a fic for crying out loud) made Pinkie even more annoying than she is in the actual TV Show.

The over-the-top story plots (Fluttershy being Dovahkiin, Angel being a commander of a rabbit army, etc.) were also too over the top and reading through it for the harem/serious/good parts became too much of a task.

Only chapters I can recommend reading is the first one as well as the golden ticket chapters, other than Pinkie they were pretty good. The rest of it though? Bleh.

Quite a shame. It had the potential to be a cute/funny fic to.

It's gotten progressively better since then. The major turn around were the Trixie and Look Before You Sleep chapters. Pinkie got severely toned down and is less annoying. But the writing style is what really kills the story overall. If you have the patience you'll find a few gems here and there to keep readers entertained still. I'm still reading just to see what the Gala is going to be like.

There's actually another Rule63 Twilight fic that came out recently. It's written much better, but not as much focus on the harem trope. Only two chapters, but it's worth keeping an eye on:

I might give it a read. Though yeah the writing style and some of the bits in it are really... odd. Like the begining of the Sleepover arc for example. They fist talk about spike being neutered... the shit?

EDIT: You are right though. It does pick up a bit minus the writing style. The slumber party was pretty good.

For those interested in G1,
there was a series of episodes called The Return of Tambelon, wherein a kingdom ruled by an evil goat came back into existence after hundreds of years, much like the Crystal kingdom. Rather than being heralded by royal awareness, however, the return of Tambelon is brought to others' awareness by a sudden case of missing unicorns.

It's got some pretty good songs, including one of my favorite G1 songs ever, "Let the Bell of Freedom Ring", in the last episode.



I can't help but think the Crystal Kingdom idea might have been inspired by these episodes.
