All evidence points to it being a spin-off with no connection to FiM's canon. The real issue is whether this is the rumored movie or not. Also, after some thought, the only way I can see this not being a total bomb is if this turns into one of those magical girl shows. If not, flush a few grand down the toilet and you'll know how Hasbro feels.

Original is Pixelkitty's on DA- who although is show-quality work, it's NOT from the MLP team.

We don't have anything beyond a single maybe-early-concept art piece at this point, and the vectoring on THAT is also from a DA piece.

We know there's an Equestria Girls, we know (confirmed with video) that there's a Toy Fair article describing the show as "the Mane 6 go to Earth in human form". If you happen by /mlp/, the sticky about EG has a video link to the article inside the first 10 posts, though going deeper is just speculation, the occasional word of actual wisdom about Hasbro operations, and endless, endless spaghetti.

Sadly, it looks more like we're getting Hasbro's attempt to wedge themselves into the tween "Bratz" style market, using the MLP name as a crowbar. However, I reserve my full opinion on it until we actually get more from Hasbro proper. What disturbs me is the spinoff may not be DHX-produced, which means Hasbro may have a really easy sockpuppet to project their usual loltoyfermercial strategy on during development.

If it's the one I'm thinking about (With the portal behind her) they don't seem to be the same since the eyes and pose are different in both images. Though I'll agree the pic I posted seemed pretty off how feathered it was around the outline.

Yeah, the "Mane 6" picture was found to have a matching vectored background from a DA gallery- which casts an ill light on it actually being MLP original artwork. The show is confirmed, actual concept artwork or more than the magazine blurb has yet to appear to the public.

Oh, I know the article's legit. I think someone just capitalized on it by dumping "concept art" they quickly hacked together into the fan-stream and voila, fecal apocalypse.

Although it does make one thing abundantly clear with EQ existing. Equestria never, ever was Earth (something that pops up from time to time) to begin with.

Cartoon Network was worried that some of the flashy effects were a seizure risk. Plus the episode had a lot of communism vs capitalism undertones. It was supposed to be the series finale, but never got the green light in the US. Heard it aired in the UK though. Here's the episode for anyone not fortunate enough to see it:

Fun fact: That's actually Jess Harnell voicing the gnome. Jack Black was approached for the part but he declined.

Anyway, back to ponies. Came across this randomly. Kind of wish this was what the designers for Equestria Girls were going to use. Aside from the technicolor skin issue, their outfits really don't fit their personalities compared to here:
