I don't think we have to worry about it. As you may know, voice acting in Japan is normally top-notch. For those who might not know, a HUGE fucking part of their economy is based on things that are voice acted such as anime, vidya and visual novels, plus some other random stuff like drama CDs. And nearly all of their voice actors can sing quite well (though there are definitely still some few exceptions). It's nothing like the voice dubbing industry in America.

I think it'll be fine. I actually want to watch it in Japanese and see how they handle the lines and stuff... hearing the songs in Japanese will be interesting too XD

Fandom is way ahead of you. There's already fandubs of stuff out there.


I can't wait to see what they're going to do with the intro. Anyone remember that badass X-Men cartoon from the 90's? This is what the Japanese intro looked like:

Even though she's only had one line, I'm not surprised either. She's pretty popular in the fandom with all the memes and even fanfiction. (*sigh* and the infamous Lyra Plushie) Sometimes I feel like the whole human obsession thing gets taken too far with her though. But I won't have to worry about it for long, it looks like the Winningverse group is working on some real characterization for her. If you haven't been reading this series or its side stories/spinoffs give them a look, you won't be disappointed.
Anyway, it seems like the ponies with the least screentime wind up being the most popular. I think there was a poll for secondary/background characters on EQD a while back and Vinyl wound up as #1 followed by Derpy, Trixie, Luna, Octavia, Lyra and Bon Bon, Big Machintosh, Doctor Whooves, and Roseluck rounding up the rest of the top 10.

Not Hasbro directly, but it's a company named Funko. So far they've made 4:

-Derpy Hooves
-Rainbow Dash
-Fluttershy
-Dr. Whooves

Quality isn't "OMFGWTFBBQ!" amazing, but they're pretty good. Minus the Rainbow Dash one.

A fanmade animation with mostly OCs that isn't horrible? Color me surprised!

Better than most fan animations, but still needed some serious editing and rewrite work. You can tell the script was made by the VA's, it's dialogue heavy and sounds more like a short story being read than an episode. The shots for the heartstrings felt clumsy at times, even when they hit. The concept behind it was solid...it just suffered from the telling.

I can see your point since it did lack depth, but I thought it was good overall. Still better than another fan animation which shall not be named.

Judging by YouTube comments, the fan dubs of actual scenes seem to be much better than the songs. I think there's someone who's spent 10+ years in Japan doing those though but couldn't carry a tune with a bucket. Is this any better?

Yeah the scene was a lot better. There was only one enunciation that sounded really unnatural but the rest was really good o_o

HAH, Applejack speaks in Kansai dialect (the jp equivalent of a southern accent, I guess... because Kansai is the south of Japan). I pretty much figured that. I seriously wonder if they will do the same in the official jp dub.

Wish they would have done something with the southern accent in the german dub... AJ speaking bavarian, that would be hilarious xD (and probably no one outside bavaria would understand it ) But no, she speaks plain, dialect-free german <.< Boooooring!

Yeah, dialects are too different from accents, unfortunately. You can accent your words and still have them be intelligible to standard speakers as long as the words are the same, but dialects often use different words/grammatical constructions that are too far off from the standard so you only understand them if you're familiar with it. Most of Japan is familiar with parts of Kansai dialect, but I don't think they will go too overboard with it, if they do decide to dub AJ in Kansai. I'm sure German and Bavarian is really far off in parts too o_O even places that are so close to each other can have completely different ways of talking.
