Is it Scootaloo can't fly because she is disabled? I vaguely remember Lauren Faust saying in an interview she wanted to do an episode about it but she left the show before it could ever come to be.

It was meant to be a series of three episodes starting with season 1, but got rejected by lolHasbro. If this actually does wind up being what Larson is hinting at, I'll flat out forgive them for the MDW episode, everything in season 3 and Rodimus Prime.

After finally getting to see Double Rainboom, I can say overall it was pretty mediocre. Sure the animation was great, but the writing wasn't. Riddled with too many in-jokes, memes, and other references which made it impossible to be taken seriously as an original story.

I don't know what you're fretting about, that was really, really good for a fan project. Animation quality was spot on, musical score was excellent while subtle, the voice acting was great, (Pinkie wasn't high pitched enough though) and the story was handled well. Sure, it wasn't something we'd see in an actual canon episode, but in the end that was entertaining. I sure as hell couldn't have done a better job myself.
I hope these guys stay together and work on other projects, maybe even hook up with some fanfic authors. Imagine adaptations to On a Cross and Arrow, Sunny Skies All Day Long, Keeping it Simple, or even an animated version to the comics. Yeah, I'm getting ahead of myself here, but you gotta admit, that would be pretty badass.

To me the story is always the foundation of a TV show. And when you put in a bunch of memes, brony references (Pinkie Pie's 4th wall, the Scootaloo chicken thing, the bottles of wine in Berry Punch's house) I just feel like it takes away from the originality of the story and overall worsens the story. Hell I can't count how many times I've completely lost interest in fics that try to throw that crap in and still try to act original.

Overall yes the animation was good but the story itself was real lacking. That and the 2nd part was a total mindf*ck you wouldn't get unless you knew Faust actually worked on those shows.

I thought Double Rainboom was great. I didn't think the memes were overdone considering the nature of the project (after all, it did have RD traveling outside the bounds of canon anyway). The voices were very good and the attention to detail in the animation was stellar. The only thing I could see as clearly inferior were the pacing (not even necessarily the writing, the lines spoken were mostly very good and believable from the speakers) and the animation in certain places was obviously not as smooth as the animation used in the show itself.

It was definitely lacking something plot-wise, but perhaps it was because the focus was solely on RD and Twilight for most of it. It felt too focused and not quite organic enough, but of course it had to be that way because of the nature of the project. I don't think it's fair to hold it up to an episode of the show, they simply weren't meant to be compared to each other.

I would LOVE to see more fan projects from that team but I can only imagine how much time and effort was put into it considering the level of polish. I doubt we'd get to see another one for quite some time unless they suddenly decide to devote their lives to doing fanworks.

I thought it was good. MLP in the PP girls universe? Awesome.

    Speaking of fan animation:

    -EDIT-
Looks like Ask Molestia decided to go big for April 1st:

If you took DRB seriously by the halfway mark, something was seriously wrong. It's a freakin' MLP/PPG crossover animation.

That being said, find the fan edit (which knocks it down to around 20 minutes). It's a lot like Lucas and Episode 1: The creators needed a good editor to say "Fuck you, that's overblown and stupid" and slash the padding out of the work. The fan edit actually does wonders, and that's with the crudest editorial tools handy.

Well I guess I should say I lost all my interest after the 2nd half.

No full ep yet, but I did manage to scout around and find a clip of the first JP episode when Twilight meets Rarity:

    Dub seems pretty good, though RD sounds a bit TOO tomboyish for my tastes... ^^;

I hate the fact you live outside of the U.S., that was blocked within the hour from how it sounds. I had to rely on a torrent

I just saw the Japanese version for download on Yayponies if you wanted to see it, weird that Hasbro would be so on top of blocking JP youtube episodes but they will let the original English ones stay up for weeks.

Got to admit, the VA is pretty good. Though AJ's is taking a hell of a long time to get used to. Guess it's not surprising though.

Yeah, catching the subtlety of a country accent seems like something hard to pull off in Japanese. Everyone else is spot on though. I can't wait to hear Trixie, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle.

Oh right. Is it me or is does Apple Bloom sound damn near the same in both the JP/ENG versions? For a moment I thought that was Apple Bloom's American VA doing the JP dub.

Considering the VA is a vet- in this case, it's the one who does Pikachu for the JP Pokemon series - I'm not surprised.

The result is adoracute. And coming from a full grown adult at that.
