I still think it's weird how popular Lyra is. She is barely even a character. I guess that might be the draw though, people can think up their own shit for her. (her color scheme is good though)

Well at least the human thing isn't as bad as the Vinyl/Sh*tstep association
Do enough fan-charming stuff that's made by fans and you see a character build an audience, even if they do virtually nothing in the show. At this point, there's a zillion awesome bits of Derpy-dom that never had a single show member touch them, and each time it happens, you're seeing a nominally "background" character getting a world built around them by the audience, to the point where simply having the character show up in the background of the S4 finale was enough to make the fans go apeshit. Especially when MLP has fans who can produce animation-level work in short bits.

Season 4 animatic from SDCC panel. They must pretty far from S4 starting if they don't have any finished animation to show.
Spoiler: show
Have another:
EDIT: Nvm, same thing. Dunno why EQ posted the same videos.
Also, rumor is Derpy is getting her own micro series for the comic. Can't find anything to confirm that though.
Also because I'm bored. Give me some gems to read on FiMFiction.
Look back on my older posts. Almost all of those stories are still going and getting better with each chapter. If you haven't read anything from the Winningverse, A Slice of Life, or Keeping it Simple, what are you doing? The Winningverse is more than enough to keep you occupied because of all the excellent spinoffs that fit with the main story.
Oh right, forgot about Slice of Life. Been stalking Cogwork for so long in hopes he'd add a new chapter to Whisper of Wind. Strange how he frequents the site, yet no update or anything.
EDIT: Derpy and Zecora are confirmed to be back: http://tv.yahoo.com/news/little-pony...212000136.html
Some nice news about S4, but still a bit iffy. I'm really hoping they can redeem themselves after how lackluster S3 was since they don't have a god awful spinoff to worry about. That and they can if can really go anywhere/justify Alicorn Twilight, which I know they were forced to do, and Discord. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing him troll the living hell out of the M6 again, but still really want to really see some development or something with him instead of bringing him back just because of his popularity.
So apparently some people outside the Fandom have issues with EG as well
Despite valiant efforts made by parents, toy creators and even kids themselves to convince brands to produce gender-neutral toys, the divide between "boy" and "girl" products remains vast.
Blue stuff and action figures get relegated to boy land, pink stuff and dolls are in the girl aisle and, more often than not, the dolls are increasingly feminized. They are thin, have large eyes, long lashes and are dressed provocatively. As we've pointed out before, however, these characters (some iconic), weren't always so sassy. Once upon a time, Strawberry Shortcake was a round-faced little girl with freckles, long sleeves and bloomers. Trolls used to be, well, just trolls, not "Trollz," their sexy, slim, smooth-haired doppelgängers.
Perhaps the most shocking transformation is that of My Little Pony, a toy that was introduced in 1983 and has been revamped several times. Most recently, Hasbro introduced "Equestria Girls," dolls that are pony-girl hybrids (think "goth" Barbies with blue or green skin and a colorful ponytail) along with a special DVD to be released in August. Per a press release, the humanized figures are supposed to represent My Little Pony characters as teenage girls in high school.
The release goes on to describe these characters with words like "glamour," "stylish," "ultra-chic," and it is noted that each doll features her own signature "cutie splash," an individual design that is similar to the "cutie mark" on her pony alter ego.
But, did the beloved Little Pony really need to become all of these things? John A. Frascotti, Hasbro’s chief marketing officer, says yes. “We are responding to the desire by our fans to experience the brand in more ways,” he told the New York Times.
Author Peggy Orenstein (whose book, "Cinderella Ate My Daughter," sparked a national conversation about how "princess culture" affects young girls), has a different answer. Orenstein pointed out, in an e-mail to The Huffington Post, that the Equestria Girls are necessary from a business perspective if Hasbro wants to compete with similar toys in the market. However, she says:
It's up to parents and those who give a hang about girls actual development and well-being to say absolutely neigh.
You want a sexualized, self-objectifying girl? Give her sexualized, objectified dolls. You don't? Have some conversations with the other parents in your community about the potential impact of self-sexualization and self-objectification on girls' development -- including negative body image, eating disorders, depression, low self-esteem, poor sexual choices, etc. -- and choose from the many other toy options that are rising up in response to this inappropriate trend.
I'll never understand the whole "Hasbro needed EG" thing. Yes they lacked a teen line, but why the hell milk MLP for it?
I was hoping for a new IP or something. Since I wonder if a spinoff like this has ever worked before.
I'm sure there is marketing research to support this. I would be there are a fair share of 10-14 girls who watch the show that they want to cater to, and existing brands always have somewhat of an existing built in base vs trying to build a new base from nothing.
They're basically guaranteed to break even from the DVD movie and then they can judge interests and go forward from there. And remember, it is a toy company so they want something that they can easily convert into sell-able crap. Going back to the article I posted, this means making things expressly for girls (grlz in this case?) because they have to target something at the child AND the parent - stamping MLP on a doll probably raises it high enough that brand awareness kicks in and drives up sales for the name alone.
There's that line "our fans want to experience the brand in new ways". are we sure they're not talking about all those people who draw pony-as-human fan art? lol
When I was young, all I wanted were horses. Barbie was kind of "yeah, whatever" to me. Give me Grand Champions or My Little Pony any day. Did girls really want this? What teenagers are they referring to exactly when they say EG is directed at teens? There's maybe 2 years between "girl - would rather have a pony than a barbie" and "teen - too old to play with dolls and ponies are dumb".
Wonder how many people just switched to XBOne..
Is it bad I was expecting the avatar to wear a fedora?
Corr, any news about that 3d trixie your friend ordered? Still tempted to get one of the Lunas...
And, talking bout princesses, have some Cakelestia ^^
