Also another thing about this ep that bugged me was that one face RD made. My god did the community exploit the living hell out of that to the point there's a creepy R34 using it.

Watching the number of people showing visible allergic reactions to Daring Don't because seeing themselves in rainbow-colored mirrors on /mlp/ and the like was actually highly amusing. They didn't have to go the direct route on that one, they let the obvious "kid" moral lesson be the direct one, and the second one was hidden just under the surface, where the very people who would dig for it hit it like a land mine.

I approved wholeheartedly. The idea that Equestria was totally peace and harmony is...well, kinda boring. Bad guys like the ones in this episode go the other direction- rather being "destroy Equestria", they're "bad things will happen", but not "world will fall into chaos/eternal night/insert world-ending doom here". This lets you have bad guys that can go on without having to be "solved" immediately.

I like bad guys that don't have a short shelf life. It lets you develop them- from minor ones like, say (yes)Diamond Tiara through serious baddies like Dr. Caballero into really dangerous but not "destroy everything" like Daring Do's long-lived and tail-handed nemesis.

I'd bite on a Daring Do spinoff, where I wouldn't on a EqG one. The first gives you more worldbuilding, the latter is vapid Monster Girls wannabe.

Officially, it's been "Daring Do", but it is a play on "Derring-do". And no. That's not an elaborate setup, "Yearling" is, aside from other stuff a play on the common tactic for authors who want to be anonymous publishing under an assumed name. As Twilight says- mind blown, your book-character is real pony and the bad guys are too. Makes you wonder what else Celestia keeps quietly hidden under "fictional" or other such veils, don't it?

Would be interesting, but I'll stick to my guns with the "Daring Do should have stayed a fictional character" mindset. And I still question how well this show can really pull off something like an action/adventure since it seems like they'd be extremely limited due to having to keep it kiddie and well... they're equine.

I think the problem with RD is when she's up against a rigid personality that clashes with hers like Daring Do or the games pony, she gets 2x more obnoxious to make up for the others' rigidity. RD's normally better with her friends

This weeks episode was just ok for me. Could of been a lot better. Never been a big CMC fan either.

Wonder if they will make it to the actual games this season. Maybe they time it so they have the Equestria Games episode during the olympics. If they do have the games RD and AJ better compeate in something.

Yeah, won't put that song number anywhere near the top, and it didn't really grab me. Heck, Babs Seed was a better CMC episode than this one, other than the whole "Holy Fuck, Scootaloo's gonna get a cutie...you bastards, you made me look!" bit.

Plus, the song number was actually more notable for the visuals than the music. Dat lighting effect engine...

The screenshots thread on /mlp/ afterwards was hilarious, however. There's some truly fucked up faces they're slipping into the animation these days.

And there's another reason why I love /mlp/. Aside from the occasional visit from Esteemed Faust herself, the posters manage gems like that between the quasi-porn and fetish threads.
