Wonder what would happen if they reintroduced G1 ponies in the FIM universe. Though Hasbro lost the trademarks on most of them IIRC.

Some of them have already appeared as background characters or otherwise. One of the unnamed Wonderbolts looks like Surprise, Twilight Sparkle's parents are G1 Twilight and G2 Nightlight, (I think that was his name) there's a background pegasus in "Hurricane Fluttershy" that looks like Firefly and Wind Whistler is a fairly common background character. I guess as long as they aren't named, everything is alright.

Btw I don't think many people realize how hardcore G1 was. The first few episodes were like ...

ep 1: evil goat demon captures ponies for his master, who is an evil centaur-demon thing who wields the 'power of darkness' which is really just dark energy in a bag

ep 2: ponies have to stop evil cat lady from exploiting bushwoolie slave labor (seriously) in order to make her magic drugs (seriously) that make her grow and give her powers

Man the 80s were so much more awesome when it came to sparing the nightmares of small children (aka they didn't).

My descriptions don't do it justice. The reviews of the G1 box set posted by mothers on amazon do though, as many of them say stuff like "this was too scary for my kids, I thought this was supposed to be a wholesome kids show" lol

I grew up on Transformers and literally watched my childhood die before my young eyes with the 80's movie. Man, that shit was like Saving Private Ryan, but it was awesome, until Optimus died. I was only 9, but manly tears were shed that day..
Anyway, I watched some G1 out of curiosity, and it was pretty good. Basically it was almost the exact same story as FIM, but darkened with the 80's. I hope hasbro still owns the rights to Tirek, so many bricks would be shat if he was the big bad in season 3:

Watch the royal wedding episode, at the end it pans over TS / Shining Armor's parents and the Mom matches G1 Twilight's coloring. Was watching it again yesterday and noticed after going through the G1 pony site posted. Given how many fan fic/speculations are that FiM is G1: TNG it makes sense.

It also makes Q appearing as a bad guy a mind breaker. What's next, a robot pony and its evil brother with 4 letter computer related names?

What's Brent Spiner doing anyway? He was a fucking beast in Gargoyles, he'd probably jump all over MLP just like John de Lancie. Hell, get Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, and Johnathan Frakes in on a flashback episode where they have to fight Discord for the first time. That would be... shit, I keep forgetting this is still a children's show.

Gonna have to disagree that G1 is 'almost the same story as FiM'. I don't see the resemblance outside of the whole 'light will triumph over darkness' thing which is in almost everything ever. I mean you've got humans added to the mix, witches, sea ponies, a strong focus on fantasy rather than more mundane things, all kinds of stuff FiM doesn't have because it's a completely different world.

If you were arguing that My Little Pony Tales was very much like FiM, I would have to agree there. They are very similar in that there are no humans added and the reality elements are focused on more than the fantasy elements. Also friendship and morals are stressed in Tales, while in the Dream Valley series it's more about story elements than any one moral. Tales is pretty good too. Interestingly, not all the character archetypes in Tales are repeated in FiM. You could say TS is Bright Eyes (plus Starlight, perhaps), RD is Patch, and FS is Sweetheart, but Melody, Clover and Bonbon don't really have FiM analogues.

I do like the FiM shoutouts to the G1 stuff. The fact that Spike and Applejack are characters already makes me happy XD Especially Spike...somehow I really did not expect that going into the first ep of the series.

I guess I feel I have to defend my old standard from the new stuff laying claim over it somehow. G1 will always be the best in my heart ; ;

Well they just fought off a horde of super-adaptable drones (led by a queen) that shoot green magic/lasers and sought to subvert their free will.

Edit: and the Captain (Of the Guards) was the first main character to be subverted, but his friends rescued him when all hope was lost.

My husband found a good deal on a new TV, which we had delivered today. 55" 3D LED, first HD video I decide to test on it? Ponies, of course. Love our AppleTV, still need to set up our big network storage system to be able to access our saved movies that aren't in iTunes on my laptop ^^;



Our old TV was really old... It was a flatscreen, but it could only go up to 720p, so most new videos couldn't play full size on it. It couldn't even use HDCP, which the AppleTV needed to display most of the HD videos I had. Going to unpack our PS3 and pop in Game of Thrones blurays later tonight I think, or else more ponies /evilgrin

Started reading "Crisis: Equestria" and holy shit! This is probably the most epic thing I've read since "On a Cross and Arrow." Alternate universe, evil doppelgangers, evil monocle wearing big bad... Hemokenesis! This shit is epic. Here's some more commissions that were done for the fanfic. Red Velvet (evil Pinkie Pie) is way scarier than Pinkamena would wish to be. She's high octane nightmare fuel personified.

I still have bad memories of "Past Sins" so I try to avoid fanfics with commissioned cover art. (the stories never live up to them) But the pics were too awesome to avoid. Have you gotten to Red Velvet's chapter yet?
