I'm not a big fan of the show -- I must admit. I've only seen like 6 episodes maybe and didn't really follow through. It was okay, but just didn't get into it. But I browse this thread a lot, and I fucking LOVE the fanmade shit for some reason. Bronies take their fandom to another level and it's fascinating. The art and videos people create are very captivating.

That fan made one above was stunning.

Looks like FimFiction is turning into a popularity contest with their top three featured stories. The top feature is a meta trollfic, another was written by an author recovering from anesthesia, and another was written for the purpose of getting rid of writer's block. I feel bad for everyone else that puts actual effort in their stories.

That's actually pretty damn good. Most of the usual OCs and Ponysonas I see are just recolored vectors of canon characters:

Or they're alicorn mary-sues used for self insertion fanfics. (fuck you Nyx, fuck you) I like yours because he looks like he'd be an extra on the show. Any thoughts on a cutie mark and special talent yet? Also, what's up with the lack of earth ponies? Everyone wants to be a Unicorn or a Pegasus these days. If I ever make a ponysona, I'd probably be a hipster and make an earth pony to spite everyone. Or maybe a Zebroid since I'm black, but not african, so it'd make some kind of sense lol.

1. I never put a lot of thought into my OC TBH. At first I was going to make the cutie mark the LNC symbol from XIV, but really don't want to tarnish my OC with a game I'm quitting soonish unless my situation gets better. I could do something like computers/programming since that's what I'm into, but I'd rather have it be something that actually fits in the FIM world. If something came up where I could see OCs working, I might do more with them, but til then I'll just try to think of a cutie mark that works.

2. Holy crap at the dislike bar on that vid. My friend was right about people hating OCs. Though in all honesty it is pretty justified. Just a "Hey look at my OC and how much of a poser I am" type of thing.

EDIT: And because I can't sleep - I just thought of another idea for a quick meme vid. Hopefully I can get it to work out.

I was thinking the same thing when I was playing around with the pony creator. But couldn't find something to really go with what I'm good at.

If you want to make good use of your OC, write a fanfic and most important of all: take the mary sue test! There are some rare cases in which a mary sue would be acceptable, like a one scene wonder or if they're a large ham. But those are usually plaid for laughs or a big lipped alligator moment and shouldn't be taken seriously. OCs are a bit different in that they could be used as a filler for a story, (like the CMC fic I linked earlier) add a different perspective to a story through their eyes, become a heroic bystander, or even be the lead in their own story. (look at how well Fallout: Equestria is doing with that) The whole process is kind of hit or miss depending on how much thought you put into the basic do's and don't of an OC. If you want a prime example, read some of the comments about Lightning Blaze or whatever the hell that thing was supposed to be that out flew a sonic rainboom.
