I was recently interviewed at a hospital position last week and they offered me the position afterwards. They sent a welcome packet and all the shambles to fill out before i go on my physical/fingerprinting this 19th of September. They're doing a background check on me in the meantime based on the info i provided on their application and my resume.

My concern is this, I recently graduated from college in may with a bachelors in science, however I had to take a class that I had been missing pending the degree completion. Funny thing is, they still allowed me to attend the graduation ceremony back in may. That said, I took the missing course this past June and was finished with that by the end of that month. Now when I made my resume, i had put down a bachelors in my education field and 6/2011 as the degree completion because that is when I completed all my coursework technically. So that is what this hospital has on my resume at the moment.

The problem: I contacted my school few days ago and asked them if I could come pick up my diploma, they said no and that I had to wait until September 30th for them to validate the diploma since I took a summer class and they are closed in summer, they only validate diplomas in may/september/december of each year.

So technically I am a September grad now, the job I've got hired at is probably going to do a education background check and will see that my bachelors is still listed as incomplete, how should I approach to fix this issue, should i contact the recruiter or HR and just let them know they are validating my diploma on the coming 30th and that the date I had put down on the application was the time i completed my coursework?

My start date with the place is October 14th. Would they find that fishy and rescind the offer due to misinformation on the resume/application? Kind of worried how this all fell into place. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it unless they bring it up. Wouldn't have been a terrible thing to mention at the time, but it'll probably be fine.

Yeah I honestly would've mentioned it in the interview if I knew about it at the time but I didn't until a day after when I went to pick up the diploma.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Why not call them and mention just that? That you expected it now but came into a snag when you went to go get it. They can always call the school and verify that's the case.

The key is you didn't knowingly provide false information on your job application materials. You can always contact them and explain it like previous posters mentioned just to stay ahead of any potential problems, not that there should be any.

It's not like you said you had a B.S. in something that you didn't have at all.

Shouldn't be a problem at all, especially since you already got the welcome packet.

I agree with the "don't say anything unless they ask (which they probably won't)" route, because you aren't willfully hiding anything and there isn't really an issue, and as such, there is no reason to make waves.

I would be shocked if they mentioned it. But if they do just explain to them exactly what occurred. Most companies only care that you have the degree, not when you received it.

Won't be a problem at all. Some schools do that shit all the time. I listed having a Bachelor's in my resume and I was hired before I actually had received it. My listed date was May but I didn't receive it until July. If it comes up just tell them that you didn't know because you had graduated in June. Then come back and follow up saying that you had spoken with them and they had revealed that they only issue diplomas Fall/Winter/Spring and not Summer (bringing up that you took a Summer class).

People are very understand if you're just up front with them, professionally. If you want to just lie and and make up an excuse, it will bite you in the ass later.

Hey man, that curry penis debacle was ages ago. No need to re-open wounds.

I took a Winter Course to graduate for my 2 year degree, and it states on my diploma that I graduated in January '09, rather than May '09 which is when I was able to get my diploma.

Your school is a piece of shit.

It is pretty common that people attending the commencement while they still left either one or two courses that need to take. And most of the school allow you to do it, since they know that the spring commencement will be one of the biggest event during the academic year, and usually most student who are graduating or soon to be graduated would like to attend in that. Most of my friends do this too, they went for the ceremony, than come back during either track A or B in the summer to finish the last course.

I'm believe the hospital will has no problem with that.
