I came to the U.S. from Nigeria on Sept. 21, 2001. The only thing I can actually remember from that day was packing up our stuff while the T.V. was on CNN and seeing the footage. I, at first, didn't know what to feel, because I thought it really didn't affect me, but when I looked at my mom, I knew to act shocked, even though I wasn't. To this day I know I should feel something for 9/11, but I really wasn't there to experience all the emotion.

I was living in the dorms at K-State. First class that day was at 2:30, so I woke up at like 1:30. It was the first year the dorms were non-smoking, so the first thing I did was go down to the porch for a cigarette. A couple of my friends were down there, and when I asked what was up they were like "dude they knocked down the twin towers." I didn't believe them lol, was like whatever, seriously what's up lol...

Obviously they were like no, really. One of their dad was actually in NY at the time on business, and close by, but fortunately not close enough to get hurt. They said classes weren't really going on that day, but the class I had was sociology so I was like well fuck, this might be interesting, and went. There were like 2 other people there lol, and the teacher just had us go home.

Don't really remember much else about the actual day. I remember the time after pretty well tho. Shit was crazy, and depressing as hell. I also remember being in Florida on spring break, like 4 days from flying home, when Bush announced that Hussein had 48 hours or whatever to get out of Iraq, and being scared as fuck about flying cuz of it.

I always thought this was pretty awesome tho, actually posted it in another thread not too long ago:

Wow Jon Stewart looks so young and skinny

I remember I was in middle school and heard announcements of what happened from a family friend (who was my math sub). My brother picked me up early and told me the terrorists were attacking (and had no idea what that meant). But yeah that same year my Grandmother passed away in June so it was even sadder for me knowing friends who had lost family that day.

    :\

1st period speech class, teacher was fucking around on her computer and said a plane crashed right after the bell for 2nd period went off so we were all like "oh...okay." Think the principal made some sort of announcement during 2nd period in athletics. Everybody was pretty lax about it. 3rd period rolled around with fucking geometry with a bitch of a teacher but it was cool cause we just watched the news instead of doing anything. I can't recall there being a 4th period but maybe they let us out early. I remember when I got home my mother had on the TV and I think I said something along the lines of: "So I guess there won't be anything else on TV for a couple of days." I was pretty annoyed.

Was a sophomore in high school... I went to a boarding school in Pebble Beach CA. Right as I was about to walk out to my first class through the common area in my dorm, saw people watching TV. You guessed it, it was the news and the second airplane was about to hit. It was extremely strange seeing it. Had no idea how to make sense of it at the time...kind of left me in a funk as I headed to class. I think classes were then canceled after the first 1-2 periods. The rest of the day was spent in the dorms watching the news or just talking about it.

So long ago... It's already been a decade? Feeling so old.

I was a sophomore in college. I had gone to class that morning and my roommate and I were back in our dorm room since we had a break between classes. I was derping on the internet killing time until class when my roommate said Holy Shit or something along those lines and suddenly turned the news on. I clearly remember not believing what I was seeing. People came into our room when they heard our TV was on. Classes were cancelled for the rest of the day and the next day.

And yeah, throwing my hat in with the BG geezers feeling old by wtf'ing at all the ppl in this thread being in middle school/high school.

I was asleep, working for a temp agency and was between assignments. The first plane came into the tower and my dad came and woke me up, he turned my TV on, and I was just kinda lying there in the half sleep/awake state, and just sorta listening.... and the second plane came in and i woke up the rest of the way.

I was 21 years old, i had no real plans or ideas about what i wanted to do with my life. I smoked pot, and couldn't hold a job. That was a decade ago.

    Now....

I've disarmed over 200 IED's, been on over 450 Combat missions, I have a bronze star and 4 commendation medals. I have nightmares and i miss my friends. I've been divorced, and re-married to the most wonderful woman a guy could ever hope to find. I came to understand my dad and to even realize that i'm more and more like him in so many ways, and that I love him for the man he and I are. I realized that of the three types of people in the world, I'm a sheep dog. I went from Nieve 21 year old to scared 31 year old.

It's been a long strange ride.... hopefully i'll have some children soon, and i can raise them up to know the value of a nation at piece. to show them how to be a better person that I was. and to realize that what precious time we are given should never be squandered.

I'll never forget how clear the sky was that day.

I was in Earth Science class in the 7th grade when classmates parents starting coming in to pick up their kids between 1st and 2nd period.

I thought to myself that it was strange but my fears were realized when other teachers starting running frantically up the hallway to our classroom to tell our teacher what happened. The Spanish teacher comes in saying the WTC got hit and that the Empire State building was also under attack. (gotta love misinformation via panic) You could feel the fear coming off our Earth Science teacher as she processed what was going on and it radiated out to us kids who had no fucking idea what was going on.

People were scared shitless. When a classroom of chatty preteens start acting serious, you knew something was dreadfully wrong.

More parents starting coming in and I can remember vividly the feeling of dread everyone in the city had that day. My dad and his co-worker were in midtown and got to see the towers burning but he zoomed to pick me and my sister up and we all got a ride from a cabbie who was going to pick up his own daughter and offered to take us home for free. I remember looking down 2nd avenue and seeing the plume of smoke that was the WTC...

Yeah man, watching the planes hit to this day brings that feeling of dread back just a bit.

I still remember 9/11 vividly. I worked for Motorola C shift at the time. I was drinking my coffee, watching the Today show, when they had breaking news about an airplane that crashed into one of the world trade center buildings. At first they thought it was a small airplane, they had helicopters flying around, and was just barely starting to report on it. Suddenly, the second airplane hit, and at first I thought it was video off the first crash. Then I saw the reaction and look on Matt Lauer's face, and I knew it was another crash. Then there was time of WTF IS GOING ON?! and that seemed like forever and an hour. Then the Pentagon crash happend, and it was clear we were under attack.

Was watching this all unfold on the news. GF called me and said the world is coming to an end. I laughed it all. Was pissed off the news media were blaming the middle east before there was any evidence. A sad day as so many lives were lost. What's amazing to me is that it was only 10 years ago. If it had happened a few years late, it would have been the social media & smart phone era. Most of the clips from 9/11 are from new media outlets or fuzzy security cameras. World could have had a better understanding of the situation.

The endless amount of stuff dedicated to 9/11 has started on TV. Hopefully people are willing to open their eyes and see beyond the tragedy.

I was in college at the time and woke up around 9:30 Pacific Time for my math class and I flipped on the TV as I was getting up. I think both planes had already crashed by that time and I remember just being confused as to what the fuck just happened because I was still tired. I went to my class and I remember my teacher being really shaken up and just kept repeating "I have no idea why we're even here right now." I remember watching that episode of the Daily Show that Plow posted and crying even though I had no connection to the event really.

That night my mom called me from her work and told me to go gas up all of the cars because she thought gas was going to be really expensive the next day for some reason. I also remember having an anti-war poster I made attached to my truck and pissing off all of the rednecks that lived near me.

got a lot of fire memorials and services to attend this weekend and next week. It's going to be gutwrenching and grueling. Just happy my brother came home safe, and my dad didn't get sent up for added rescue personnel. Unfortunately I lost many other brothers.

I was in my intro to film class in High school. Our teacher wasn't in the class for about 30 or so minutes. When he finally showed up he rushed in and told everyone to shut up and that something important was happening. He proceeded to turn on the TV and we watched as the first building had smoke pouring out of it. Everyone sat in silence just stunned by what they were seeing. The bell rang for us to change classes and when I arrived in my math class the second building was already on fire. The second plane had hit in the 5 minutes between classes. They replayed it over and over. It was so surreal. We didn't do anything in school that day other than watch the news. Around lunch time announcements were made that lots of parents were picking up their kids. I was pulled out of school just after lunch by my mom who was on her way home from D.C. She worked for the FAA and was incredibly shaken up about everything.

Same here, only I was in 8th grade, and the rumor was something fucking stupid. I don't remember what the actual rumor was, just that it was stupid as hell and not even close. The person spreading it wasn't the brightest, but she was popular so everyone believed it.
