Was a senior in high school and I happened to ditch school that day. Lost my aunt and a few family friends in the second tower. Saw the whole thing from the roof of my building. One of the craziest parts were the fighter jets flying everywhere and me thinking we were being invaded.

That's another thing I vividly remember. Every channel had it on. ESPN, Comedy Central, all the "movie" channels like FX, TNT, USA...it was absolutely everywhere

Jesus, I feel like I need a rocking chair on my patio so I can yell at kids to get off the lawn. I was 2 months from turning 23 when 9-11 happened. God I feel old.

I will never forget that day ever. I had been in NYC literally a month before doing training for my work at our NYC offices of my old job. The apt they put me up in was in Battery Park literally right across the street from the WTC. Every morning I walked across the street through the courtyard of the WTC and up some blocks to where my work was.

Fast forward a month later at where I worked regularly in upstate NY. I walk into the office and since I was the only guy in the office with a TV ( I did video compression at the time) and everyone is gathered around my room watching and my boss says " The world trade center has been hit!" I promptly said back to him " You are kidding right?" and of course the reply was "No." So we sat and stood there for the next I dont know how long as we watched one tower burning and then a 2nd plane hit the other one and finally it all collapsed.

Was the most surreal and mind blowing thing I had ever seen. It was a true WTF moment. It is very sad that human beings have to resort to this type of thing to get attention like little 2 year olds.

    Never Forget.

I watched the first plane hit from my 5th grade classroom window.

The 2nd plane I was home.

I had one family member and one very close friend die that day, it was horrifying and at the same time I was proud of them for doing all they could, and saving peoples lives, even if it cost them their own.

10 long years ago...jesus, I remember everything that happened that day its like a photograph haha

I was at work and my boss was on the phone with her husband/my other boss.

He was at home watching and we were talking about how odd it was.. since at that point no one seemed really sure what was going on. While he was on the phone the 2nd plane hit and what was going on became pretty clear. The day went on in kind of a mush of fear and confusion as more and more news came out, including the plane crashing in PA and another into the Pentagon.

    Senior in HS...

Happened during my American History class... Teacher was freaked out and turned on the TV, took about 10 minutes to figure out what was going on. Didn't think much of it until the second plane hit.

Sadly, I think I've forgotten as much of what I was doing during 9/11 as I have about when the Challenger blew up. I do remember making jokes the same day. I also remember being more worried about trying to drive through NYC than flying home from Maine two weeks after.

I don't see much wrong with this nostalgia thread considering it's been 10 years since it's happened. Decade tends to be an ok amount of time to reflect on what was going on during this day for people.

Props to everyone at ignoring the attempts by trolls to stir up conspiracy shit and no one really biting at. While I'm far from being sold on it being a conspiracy, I will say there are some very valuable questions I would like answered. That said, I still do get sad when I watch video or information about, and documentaries and the like.

My ex girlfriend witnessed it all literally first hand, watched people falling from the sky, and literally hid in a store just a few blocks from the towers as the collapsed. She went to Stuyvusent HS in NYC, which anyone familiar with down town NYC can tell you, is literally right there (also the school that the movie hackers was filmed in). She was actually late for school that morning, and exited the subway station to see that the first plane had just hit when she was on her way commuting down town. As she was standing there, the 2nd plane hit, and that's when all hell broke loose. Her memory is very cloudy at this point, but she remembers hiding from the dust cloud, and then eventually walking up the west-side highway all the way up into the 30's until a random person drove her back up town to her apt. She still suffers sleep deprevation, and the whole incident put her into a nasty depression which culminated in a pretty big cocaine habbit. Years later she is clean and off drugs, but the after effects of being so close to the whole thing are still there. So whenever I get choked up thinking about everything, I think about her and all the people in her shoes, and the people that had it worse.

I was 21 when I heard on the radio at work that the first plane had hit. Didn't think much of it until the second plane was announced then it got serious. I told my work collegaue who had a relative in New York who then tried to contact them. As we didn't have the internet at work then, we had to watch the news on a shitty 10" tv with hardly any signal (no tv license at work!). Turns out the relative was fine but it took a while to get through to him. I was due to fly out a week later to Canada so I thought my flight was pretty much fucked with the restrictions on air travel after the event.

I was at work (worked at a Chevy dealership in the service department back then). The TV was on in the waiting room and since I wasn't busy yet, I just watched it happen on the TV. It seemed so surreal. I remember thinking that the first plane that hit was just a random accident, then when another hit was when we realized it was deliberate. All we could talk about all day was what had happened, also because there was no work since no one came in for anything, not even oil changes, so there were no distractions from it. I talked to my brothers who were in BCT at the time, they wanted to go fuck shit up.

I'll probably always remember those guys from that job since that was a day I won't forget, where other people from other jobs are mostly forgettable.

I think this was the first major event where the media was just everywhere and you couldn't escape it, at least from my memory. This was the first time when there was nonstop coverage of something and it permeated every facet of everything. Didn't matter what channel you watched, it was on. Not that I wanted to forget all about it, but I didn't want to see it every waking second of the day.

I remember everyone cancelled their appointments and the day was really slow, but we weren't going to close so we had to stay. I stopped at a gas station on the way home and picked up the newspaper. It's sitting in the desk drawer of my bedroom at my mom's house still. It was just something that I thought should be kept.

Now ... hard to believe it's been ten years. I don't know how I feel about it really. I think we need to remember it though, because it can happen again and people need to realize that all those extra safety measures on planes aren't going to cut off the only possible means of terrorism. It seems silly to me that all these security measures were put in place for flying, but there's so many other ways we are vulnerable. Not that I live in total fear or anything, but it seems ridiculous that we worked so hard to make flying secure after the fact, and that if there is going to be another attack it's probably not going to be by use of planes.

Still after ten years it seems so senseless and it's hard to understand why people do this shit to each other. I guess if there's ever a day where I do understand that sort of thing, I'd probably want to stop living. :/

9th grade high school, we could see the towers outside the school windows, Live in valley Stream. I was a little out of it, my father worked very close to it so ya. TVs where in classes and teachers where told not to turn the TV's on, but we all knew it as it was. Just had to look outside the top floor windows to see for yourself anyways. After about an hour the we got the green light to turn TVs on(already where anyways)

This year ill be playing 1864( maybe 1880's) baseball at Old Bethpage Restoration Village.

I was visiting my family between modelling trips. I remember being on a train going from Prague to Pardubice when my boyfriend at that time called me to tell me what happened. The connection was really bad and all I got out of it was some plane crashed into some building in New York and I was really confused. Well at my grandmother's place I found out what was really going on. I watched the news and waited for my friends to pick me up. We went out drinking and all we could talk about was how fucked up the world was. I had to fly to Sweden couple of days later and I was really concerned about it. The border controls at the airport were crazy.

I also remember my grandmother saying US deserved it for what they did to Cuba, and my dad getting furious about it.
