Remember exactly where I was - had to do 2 weeks in a school voluntarily prior to starting my teacher training course. Got in car, radio came on tuned to a music station as usual and the DJ was saying something about more of what was coming in from America, which, being in a classroom all day, I knew nothing about (with the time difference this can't have been too long after things initially happened). Got home within about 10 minutes and sat absolutely open mouthed at the news as it all unfolded, joined shortly after by my brother on his way home from school.

Bit that shook me up more was the kids' take on it at school the following day - watching them make sense of it made much stronger if you get what I mean.

I woke up late my senior year of college in Milwaukee and the first thing I heard on my radio alarm was the DJ saying "Lower Manhattan is covered in dust, the world trade center towers have collapsed."

I shot out of bed, ran to the living room to turn on the TV. One of my roommates was in the kitchen making breakfast for himself and his girlfriend, and I said "Do you know what's happening?" and he replied "Yeah, we're going to be hearing about it for years. This morning, I just want to have breakfast."

I thought there was something interesting about his response.

I was in my 11th grade Physics class. Walked in and everyone was watching "Channel One" (National Student News Channel or some shit) with this dazed, terrified look on thier faces. I remember not caring at first and saying it wasn't a big deal.

10th grade, was in a programming class, when the kid next to me yelled the WTC was hit by a plane. Teacher went out of the class room and was got for about 10 mins, then came back and told us everyone is to report to the gym. They had the news channel on the big screen, when the second plane hit. Never seen some many scared kids in my life screaming and crying. 20 mins later everyone's parents were otw to pick us up.

Was in the middle of my Navy C-school. During a simulation, a Senior Chief comes in (wasn't our instructor) and told us all to take a 10min break down at the geedunk. We come back and our PO instructor tells us that WTC pretty much didn't exist anymore and to head back to barracks and that tomorrow the whole base would rearrange itself.

It didn't hit home until we were walking back and we saw our Command Master Chief (senior enlisted person on the base, an intel base I should point out) running full tilt from base quarterdeck to the high clearance building across the way. Anyone in the military could tell you, that shit just does not happen.

We all just sat around the barracks union, couple dozen of us watching it all as the base went on full alert and locked down. I still remember ever damn thing that was said that day.

Was a sophomore in HS, first period French class I think. Principle announced everyone to turn on their TVs to any news station. Saw the first building already on fire. People on the other side of the camera told the news anchor to turn around and look at the picture. That's when the second plane hit. Was pretty trippy seeing that shit live. By the time I got to 3rd period I think, the first tower collapsed. My mom and aunts all took off of work and picked us up from our schools. We got home and my mom was worried for my dad who was downtown still. I remember thinking world war 3 was about to break out because of the Pentagon being attacked, haha.....

To contribute to the thread to what/where September 11th 2001... I was well out of high school and up at 4:30 am to opened doors at 5am to see my 1st appointment with my community supervisions officer. I can clearly recall a guy sitting across the room screaming out in the waiting room after getting off his phone. He fell apart and broke down in a room full of convicted cons/addicts/fuck ups. Everyone was clueless what was going on, we were in a felony probation waiting room, waiting to see officers and pee in cups. The guy final caught his breath and told us he got off the phone with his mother who gave him the news, a plane had hit one of the towers in NYC and his twin brother worked there. I'll never forget him

I woke up just after the first plane hit. Jumped in my car went and picked up my friend then we went to another friends apartment and toked all day while watching the news. Even though I lived in AL the cities (even the interstate) were like ghost towns that day. I guess everyone was inside watching TV.
