UPS Deliveries over 100$. Get free stuff wut?

So back in the day when I did a little job stint with UPS for Christmas delivery I road around and got to see how they delivered packages, and one thing I caught on to and was told by other drivers was that 90% of the time they will drop off most packages even if they require a signature, and usually will just write your name down on their tablet and jump back in the van.

Now skip ahead a few years, a friend was telling me that at one time UPS left a few of their computer components out on their porch, somewhere around 400$, in a pretty bad section of the town I used to live in. He found the package there and was pretty pissed off, so he took it inside, then called up UPS a few days later and told them he never got the package. After a bit UPS came to apologize for forging my friends signature on the package delivery slip and had to replace the parts (or so he said, never found out if it worked or not)

Has anyone else done this with UPS? I ask because my fiance just had 200$ worth of textbooks dropped off today, on the porch in the pouring rain and never was even given the chance to sign, hell the guy didnt even ring the doorbell. I was contemplating when I order a new mobo and RAM to just tell them I never got the RAM if they pull the same thing on me

Reason why UPS doesn't care, is because their "insurance" policy on shipping things is a complete scam. It doesn't exist, and the agency operating it has conditions for meeting insurance claims (which 99.9%) always is denied due to the fine print. (Boxes must be shipped standard size, appropriate size, weight to box strength ratio, box support/internals.

TL;DR UPS is fucking garbage, they don't give a shit. And yes, you can get free shit this way in urban/metro areas.

I'm sure it's like most companies, they give you a shot at two at this but if they see you abusing it they stop.

So basically, order something awesome and tell them you never got it. Have it paid for again by them, and now enjoy twice the item, or a free item if you return the original one.

If a driver forges a signature on a package that requires a signature, 2 for 1 deal for you, but with some time and work on your part.

I worked for a shipping company's dept that handled amazon, 95% of the time Amazon will ship you a replacement and then go for the shipping company's throat. Call the shipping company first and just basically say 'look, you left it here and it was taken before I got home'. That way when the shipper follows up there's already notes about it, and if the shipping company couldn't resolve the problem it's easier for the shipper to file a claim and ship you another product.

Also make sure you dont have any 'permission to leave' agreements with the shipping company. If you get a door tag that says 'sign this and we'll leave it tomorrow' they hold onto those as extended permission to leave in some situations.

I've never even heard of this happening, and every single time i wasn't around to sign for a package that needed to be, i got a note on my door saying they couldn't deliver it.

Depends on the driver. I've worked with UPS drivers for 9 years now, it comes down to the driver. I've had some as bad as stealing and getting prison time, to some to follow the rules to a T. (Even covering their asses with pickup summaries that require additional signatures) Just like anything else in Amerika. Shits situational, depends who you get, etc.

Current UPS situation. Neither my work or home UPS could give 2 shits less. If I was an asshole I could have gotten my LoTR Blu Ray for free. Too bad it was worth the money. As for my work one, well... my overnight new releases keep getting stuck on some plane that can never make it on time.

Oh and dont be a douchenozzle when calling the shipping company, unless you want to garuntee shitty service with them in the future. Drivers dont care about a 1 off upset person, but someone who becomes an assclown that they remember is someone who doesn't get anything unless they sign for it / have it documented via photo's. (yes i've seen driver record someone signing before, funny shit)

I had this happen when I bought a shitty cooling tray fro my laptop like 2 years ago. I came home and it was sitting infront of my apartment door. I just got a package this week, and there was the note thing on the door, it said "Come pick it up today between 4:45-5 to meet the driver at the store" I arrive at 4:45 and go in the store, and the guy is like "Yeah, wait outside for the driver" so I'm waiting and I read the notice a little more, and basically it stated that you have like 3 chances to pick it up from the driver or be home, or they drop it at the store after that and charge you 5 dollars to hold it. Now... if the driver is going back to the store at the end of the day anyways, why the fuck is it not like Puralator and they just leave it there for the night and let you pick it up till 9??

TLDR: UPS charges for a bullshit system

I have the opposite issue... they make me sign for $10 amazon orders every fucking time, and show up any time from 12-19:00. Cocksuckers. Also, the usual driver looks like Muldoon and I have to hold back the urge to ask him about dinosaurs.

It's obvious why he makes you sign for cheap $10 orders, it's because you're not asking him if he's Muldoon.

Friend of mine had a computer monitor ordered and ups shipped it. Tracking info said it was delivered, no box at door, so he called and they apologized sending him a new one with no problem. A few days later hes trimming his bush, oh hey, my monitor is in my fucking bush. For whatever reason thats where the dude put it. Free 2nd monitor.

First, what does that say if that's the same definition of bush that came to mind for me too (even if I'm thinking you intended that as a joke)..? (and how many others of you are guilty of this?)

Second, is $100 the amount they're supposed to have you sign for, or is it all products in theory? Seems anytime you could claim you didn't receive the product and either the delivery company or the shipper would have to fix it. If you claimed you never received it (legitimately or not), is there any way they can hold you responsible?

I think they understand that it's in their best interests to deal with it and not screw you over since you can just simply refuse the charge on your credit card, effectively screwing them over even harder then if they just sent you out a new one. With the way things are marked up, I wouldn't be surprised if that alone is the reasoning behind them taking care of you.

UPS did it to me too, and I boycotted NCSX as an import shop ever since, because they would only ship UPS to me. I ordered a JP copy of Guilty Gear XX for $65 and they made me sign for it to have it delivered, but delivery occurred while I was at work. Also, I had paid for 2nd Day Air ($18 shipping for one DVD case, $30 if I wanted Next Day Air), and they didn't attempt delivery until 5 days after the item shipped, plus it was in my city the evening it shipped, and it wasn't a holiday weekend. I couldn't pick it up at the warehouse tracking said it was at because they wouldn't authorize me for that until delivery was attempted and failed.

Then I ordered a Limited Edition Astral Blue PS2 from SCEA and it shipped via UPS, and they left it at the head of my driveway, visible from the street, 5 minutes after I wenty to work for an 8 hour shift. That was like a $350 model at the time. Amazingly it was still there wehn I got home. UPS is on my shitlist ever since. I order stuff from Play-Asia and it gets delivered by USPS ahead of schedule, usually 4-7 days for the cheapest shipping.

One of my coworkers at the time had a home security camera system at the time, and caught a UPS driver dropping off a package like that without a signature, and got the driver fired for doing it. I was too livid to call them at the time, and honest about getting it that I didn't pull the stunt this thread suggests. I just simply boycotted them. Their rates to Alaska suck anyway.

Yep, ordered the laptop I use now via Newegg and the delivery dude left it on the door step. Lucky I live where old retired people are, so no ones gonna steal shit from anyone, still pretty careless of the driver to do that.

Same thing happened with basically my entire computer parts from Newegg.

Came home from school and found 2 giant boxes clearly labeled Newegg sitting in front of my apartment door as well as a box for my monitor which wasn't even in a second box to not give away what it was, it was just the standard monitor box with those plastic handles wrapped around it for easier caring. I guess the office was closed at the time so the deliverer thought that was the best method. This means they probably sat there for 4-5 hours. I guess I'm lucky I live on the second floor so only a dozen or so people could see these boxes, instead of anyone who walked by.
