I came back for a month, mostly because there's still a small group of people I've played with for years still playing. I just came back to say hello and maybe do some catchup in case good content is released down the road.
I can't get excited about anything. I took two jobs from 90 to 99 and it seemed so boring, even though it only took a few hours. On top of that, there's a huge difference from last year in how difficult it is to get an exp party. The first 4 days I logged in I couldn't even get one (maybe that's just my server though).
Finishing up my +2 armor or getting an empyrean seems like it would be the best use of my time, but it just feels so empty to me at this point. Grind, grind, get... grind, grind, get. Maybe it's not dynamic enough content for me anymore. Maybe it's because I know I would have to dual box most of it. I'm still trying to put my finger on exactly what took the magic of FFXI, before Abyssea, away for me.
I used to lead Einherjar twice a week, CoP Dyna twice a week, ZNM/Limbus/Sky/Sea/Salvage/KSNM99 ect 5-6 days a week. I loved it. I put in hardcore hours, sometimes 10 hours a day... I have no desire to put that much time into any game anymore(thank god), but I wouldn't mind being able to put 2-3 hours a day into FFXI circa 2009. What has happened to this game?
I tried hard to be optimistic about the level cap increase when it was announced. I thought it seemed silly to do something that drastic so long after the last level cap increase, but if it was done right it could be a great thing. The day the level 80 .dat files were released it was all over for me. Well over 90% of the 2009 gear was instantly outdated or matched by more easily obtainable gear. That also meant that the events associated with the old gear went the way of garrison. Sure you could, and can, still do them, but you mostly do them for the lulz...
I'm more or less uninterested in the Void Watch system. Neo Nyzul makes the dev team look like game design retards. Heavy metal plates make me wish I never even looked back at this game after 2010. I imagine they really did try. Abyssea was actually fun... for the first two months. While there's alot of items I could still work towards, I just see no external motivation. The game seems like it's asking me not to play it.
