What made you quit FFXI?

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread. I've been chilling on the "Add Crysta" menu for a while now, thinking of re-activating for some post-update fun, but I was reminded of all the right reasons to NOT do it.

Plus there's so much good shit coming out this fall, whatever little time I'll have to play games will be devoted to those.

Game died for me (and many other friends) starting at ToAU.

Big drop in older community, along with shoveled mini expansions for SE to make a quick buck.

Just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I always viewed when ToAU came out as one of the most fun times I've had in the game. CoP/ToAU dropping seemed epic. WoTG was less exciting.

Miss everyone I played alongside though.

no time anymore, also I got pretty much most of the things I wanted, there's no new items that makes me go: "Wow, I definitely need to get this!"

My interest had been waning for a while, I was only logging on for LS events, then all my LSes broke rather suddenly. That's when I realised most of my in-game friends had quit or changed server.

Since I was only logging for LS events, I obviously got on the Abyssea wagon late and my jobs weren't very good for it; went back to an old social, had fun for ~a month there, then, one day, I just stopped logging on.
I learned that said old social LS had broken a bit later, too.


So, I guess I'll vote a combination of "LS broke" and "Expansion (Abyssea)"


Though tbh, if I had wanted to stay, I would've had to change server to find another EU-timezone LS, losing the remaining acquaintances I had anyway; and since they were the reason I was still playing...


About items: that's another factor, SE only knows the extremes: in the old days, they didn't release good items often enough, but since Abyssea, stuff gets obsoleted so fast you don't even have time to salivate on item X before item X+2 comes along.
There's got to be an equilibrium between "this is going to be the ultimate stuff for 5+ years (Haidate, Ebody)" and "this'll last 3 months before total obsolescence."

Plus their payment system made me losing more money... While I am being reseated in a country that they are reluctant to accept international credit card payment. Now I'm paying extra GBP15.00 every month while I have less interest and time to play it.

Quit because I was banned. Though to be honest I probably would've quit soon even if I had not been banned. For the last few weeks I was just using FFXI as AIM, sitting in my MH and talking to people in LS/tell.

Voidwatch was fun, but not something to keep me interested and wanting to do more. Abyssea simply got old.

Not trying to be a jerk, but I have an honest question. You have a relic and a few Empy weapons right? Also just a lot of time in general invested. How do you get yourself banned? Since you didn't say how, I'm assuming a 3rd party tool. I'm not a goodie goodie so I'm not giving you a hard time. But why would you, or anyone that's worked on getting multiple relic, empy, etc get themselves banned? Is it maybe the last thing that can help them quit the game for good?

Forgive me if I am wrong, but it seems in my absence from the game people have grown very fond of that "Clipper" program.

It was an honest question I wasn't assuming anything. Quit trying so god damn hard to be internet cool guy. The reason I brought it up in the first place was because iirc, Ragearo of Siren had screenshots on ffxiah.com (gone now) trying to get himself banned.

I don't use clipper, as it crashed me whenever I tried. I did fish bot on a mule but was not banned while fishing, I actually hadn't been out to fish at glacier in 2-3 days. Honestly, I have no idea what exactly what I was banned for, whenever I spoke to reps at SE they were vague as a mother fucker and just said things like I was reported for violation of the terms of service.

And no, I didn't need anything to help me quit, like I said I was hardly playing anyways. Just kind of worked out this way.

Your point is valid(assuming people need to get banned to quit is dumb), but your comparisons aren't much better. The difference between a fully developed character in 2007 compared to one now is significantly smaller, but you've still got a lot of work to make up for.

Speaking of dumb logic, you seem to be under the impression that having your cigarette taken away is akin to having your fully developed relic account essentially deleted. Last I checked, you could grab a new pack for the cost of a cheap meal and pick up where you left off. When you can purchase a Spharai for the price of a value meal on a whim, get back to me.

That definitely wasn't a defense for the notion of needing to be banned to quit, his comparison was just silly.

One is an issue of having progress(albeit, the gap is significantly smaller in most respects these days) erased, while the other is a matter of picking up where you left off immediately.

Right. You can't have someone's name, a racial slur, or any kind of swear word in your bazaar. When I was in SA a female friend got jailed for "Fuck yo couch" in hers.
