The best part about playing games on emulation is disassembling and reassembling them to play how you want.

Is that supposed to be fun? I thought the main complaint FFXII received was that it played itself.

Hacking is always fun. The stuff in that video can't be done with game shark lol. Plus you learn a lot about the mechanics of a game when you can look at the actual code for them.

PS2 is RISC, so it doesn't have things like a hardware stack. Writing hacks for those games is/was good practice for other stuff I was doing at the time.

the converse was also true. the game could only play itself entirely if you set up your gambits well.. so its something that was skill-dependent and you kinda 'earned that right' - the more you could automate, the better you were. I thought that was the best part of XII's battle system.

for me I was basically running around letting the game play itself, except when fighting Marks pretty much.. in which case I'd start doing some things that might have been strat specific or 1-off, like throwing a Nihopalaoa Remedy

I honestly only ever used gambits for the two characters that I wasn't currently "controlling"
Was kinda like having AI allies and it worked pretty well.

Its especially nice when you mentally assign them roles and set gambits based on that.
    Very efficient.

I think I've changed my mind and decided to get this for Vita. This way it won't interfere with my ps3/pc backlog and I'll mostly play it on the go. Plus I'm taking 2 international trips in March and April and it should be good for that.

Don't think so, unless this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Vita_TV ever comes out here.

Pretty sure you could just import it and it'd work just fine. I'm assuming so since Sony rarely region locks stuff anymore.

they advertised being able to connect the vita to a TV via some proprietary cable for the longest time. hoping that they haven't abandoned that :I

Well I'd rather pay $40 and just get the game on PS3 than to bother with that lol

Sony abandoning region locking was one of the greatest things to come out of last gen.

The Vita TV technically launched with region-lock by means of its internal white-list to prevent incompatible games (re: camera/touch-screen heavy stuff) to run it, which only included JP titles, outside of a couple exceptions.

I would assume newer titles would be properly flagged though for whether they can run on the TV or not, since it'd be silly for Sony to have to keep updating that whitelist somehow every new game release.

As for FFX, after watching a few vids, I can't tell if the characters were always so stiff, or if the new facial models just weren't animated as well as the originals.

To be fair they weren't "horrific" for their time. They just seem so in comparison now.

That's the best way to describe it. I've seen around 10 NA titles that are known to work with the Vita TV including Persona 4 Golden and FFX/FFX-2(for some reason months in advance it was on the white-list).

P.S Will probably be like Tales of Symphonia, but if you buy it Digital on PSN you will probably be able to buy either X or X-2 stand alone
