Does X-2 add anything story wise where the old guide won't let you 100% the story in one playthrough?
Wondering if i should pony up the 20 bucks for the new guide.

are people really enjoying games, when they play with a strategy guide?
Depends on the game, what play through it is, and how OCD the person is about missing things.
well since you still need 100% completion to get the good ending of X-2 and some of the shit you need to do is obfuscated as fuck, a guide is nice
The only game I feel needs a strategy guide is Lightning Returns... otherwise, I haven't used a guide since FF8 came out lol
If endings rely on story completion benchmarks, or stuff like the Zodiac Spear in FFXII, yeah I kinda want a guide.
As mentioned, X-2 has some really dumbshit things where you can miss .1% here or there and end up at 99.9% simply because you sped through Maechen's ramblings, or missed one comment from one obscure NPC, etc. The original version also only showed completion % at the end of chapters or something, so if you forgot something and it was missable, then youre shit out of luck and have to either restart or play through knowing you are missing something.
I generally run through a non spoiler guide on completion/missables. Don't read the boss strategy sections and figure that out for myself. Doesn't take from the fun at all.
"Run into every wall in case there may be a hidden treasure behind it" isn't really fun to me.
I worked so hard in X-2 to get all the spheres for the secret ending without a guide and I ended up missing 1. I was so pissed. I will definitely be using a guide this time around.
Also since I have been through both at least once, I don't mind nearly as much.
I was one of those spam X on every little inch of room that I possibly could get to just to make sure I wasn't missing any items. lol Now I just run through games happy every item is nice and glowy.
Was checking another thing I ordered and saw that Amazon has shipped my copy! Excitement building!!
I think you can't actually get a 100% the first time through but it's been years since I played so I don't remember. The game isn't really that long though so even if you missed one thing, if you planned your game out properly, you could speed through most of it since the New Game+ saves what you completed.
I think there is a way to get 100% based on which group you joined, but not the other. I think I only was able to do it after NG+, but for some reason I thought there was a way to do it in one go..
I don't remember the specifics so I had to google it. Apparently a choice in the beginning of chapter 2 (Youth League) lets you get 100% in one run.
I have the original collector's edition guide so I'm in good shape.![]()
You can only get 100% if you pick the Youth League as that unlocks a sidequest in Chapter 5. There are some small missable things that contribute to the % but you don't need to see them all. The game actually goes over 100% completion even if it's not shown. All you have to do is check every single area in each chapter (especially chapter 3) and see all the sphere sequences in Chapter 4 (which requires visiting all locations in 3). There is however the monster capture thing and some monster/characters are exclusive to certain chapters.
Prepare your anus. First time I got to the end of X (admittedly I was like what, 12?) I literally couldn't play the game any more thanks to the fucking Dark Aeons. Couldn't even unlock stuff like Anima and the Magus Sisters simply because I had missed one of the temple spheres and Dark Shiva was an unavoidable battle infront of said temple. She'd get first turn and do 9999 damage to my entire party, lol. Definitely make sure you're prepared for 'em, cause once they appear they block off a bunch of areas with unavoidable fights. I ended up just beating the game and never doing any of them because I couldn't even backtrack to work on shit like ultimate weapons without dying to those assholes and didn't wanna grind levels/matter board. Tempted to pick this up to take another stab at the game now I'm not retarded and know all the broken setups.
I just got email notification of my shipment; but I the card I pre-ordered with exired (and from what I understand, i wasn't billed when I pre-ordered it); so I was surprised
I did the same thing on my recent play through. Fucked up getting the trainer dress sphere and lost all interest in the game.
I'll probably go back soon. Not sure if I should rush the end of the game and 100% the ng+, or try to do as much as I can and then just rush the ng+ play through and only get stuff I missed...
The creature capture stuff in x2 is pretty interesting, BTW. Some of the tales made me go "wtf am I watching?"
