I'm at the airship. I destroy everything mercilessly with Tidus, Kimarhi, and Lulu. Well, mostly Lulu. Need to do some catching up with my other characters.

He's saying that the HD version is using low-res textures where the original uses higher-res ones... which is not the case as far as I've seen. Even the NPCs have more details than they did in the original (not as much as the main characters but that's to be expected). I haven't played X-2 yet but I doubt that's any different.

Meh, it's not a big deal. It's coming from a guy(me) that hasn't played the game in many years.

If you get the ball and hide behind Keepa the Goers will never come to get you. So just get the ball then stall for time by passing between Tidus and Letty in the first half, equip jecht shot for second half. stall for time until 2m on the clock, then use jecht shot to score a goal. stall until wakka comes out, get the ball again and stall until time is out. it's a cheesy way, but the goers are so much better than you that you pretty much need cheese tactics if you don't want to rely heavily on luck.

I started the calm lands promotion and marriage quest but forgot to talk to the npc in chapter 1

1) am I fucked for 100% main story?
2) am I fucked for a trophy?

1. I believe so. If i remember right the promotion quest are a lot of .1's here and there.
2. No idea what the trophies for X-2 are.

Spent the last 3 hours catching fiends on the calm lands and one Malboro ambushed me and wiped me out. FML.

So since the guide is useless and I can't find a concrete answer online, can anyone tell me if Wakka's overdrives are missable in Blitzball? I've been running through some league matches to try and level up my team and don't want to screw anything up. (I am pretty bad and haven't been able to win any games past the story mandated one.) Or can you only get them from the tournament games?

Wakka's overdrives are definitely not missable, I usually get them near the end of the game. Blitzball can also be completely reset and start everyone back at level 1 at any point.

edit: If you don't like Blitzball, there is actually a way to force his overdrives and whatever was needed for his ultimate weapon to show up as prizes, can probably find it somewhere on gamefaqs or google.

Save your game with a new league/tournament starting and just reload til they pop.

Just to clarify, you cannot see the prizes offered on the menu before you save or they will lock in. They also alternate between modes:

Attack Reels: Tournament
Status Reels: Unlocked after winning Attack Reels, League.
Aurochs Reels: Unlocked after winning Status Reels, Tournament.
Jupiter Sigil: I believe unlocked after Aurochs Reels, League.

He's talking about FFX-2, there's a tower calibration minigame in the Thunder Plains.

You don't happen to have a save file in Macalania before the Temple do you? Say, right after Spheremorph? Can go back then and get the treasure+all the jecht spheres.

I'm using two different guides for this. One does not state that you need to start the marriage quest. However it does say to start the promotion quest in ch. 1. Did you do that at least?

I did yes
