A tip I remember reading somewhere before release of this, changing equipment has lower delay than defend apparently.

This. But then again you'd be changing equipment all the time.
Honestly, the way I've always played FFX has been the same. I got myself used to swapping people around and have them do their individual skills to bring the mob's HP further down. Sure, it's harder to do earlier on in the game when stuff dies so easily, but once you hit Gagazet the swapping becomes very simple and as long as you leveled up all your guys they'll all contribute the same damage more or less (with the exception of breaking the game with giving Yuna Firaga with a black magic node and the fact that Wakka is twice as strong as other melee characters.)
The problem I have with changing equipment is that it uses that turn for the actual switch.
And yes having to level up characters that have fallen behind is a pain.
I don't really remember how I faired on my last go through Mt.Gagazet, but I know it's one of those places where I try to stay as long as possible just for the music(like I did at Macalania Road).
I've created a tank with Tidus. I went the Time Knight route and then took a detour at slowga and went straight for Sentinel. It doesn't do anything for magic but against physical attacks, it's pretty broken. He does retarded damage too, 6,000+ with 9,999 crits. Lulu though I put the most work in grid wise. She's been through yuna's route and her own at least twice before I finally settled with getting Curaga and leaving her out of white magic route. I just got the airship, and already have the -ga spells, doing about 5-6k. I basically turned her into a BLM/WHM.
Side note: Delay Attack/Buster + Slowga + Haste/Hastega = majority of mobs/bosses that aren't immune will hardly get any turns in. High agility char gets like 3-4 turns in a row @_@.
Still on the fence on what I want to do with Kimahri. Rikku is gonna be a thief...but her route lacks strength nodes. Auron is probably gonna be dropped XD, and Wakka will probably be a full time knight. Actually, if my preferred characters could hit air mobs, I wouldn't use Wakka at all. In old playthrough with the original, I already used Yuna full time.
Any reason why sometimes the Chocobo training/rental NPC is sometimes not outsides the Al Bhed outpost in Calm Lands when I get off the airship? Sometimes they're there, sometimes they're not.
Never had an issue leveling up in the original. I'd swap in Wakka or Lulu if I needed the magic damage or against flying mobs. Once you can do the monster arena, it becomes a moot point. Been almost 10 years since I did it, but a simple set-up. Overdrive to AP on weapon. Set overdrive to fill on ally taking damage. Auto-revive if you have it. Attack a cactaur that counters with 1000 needles type attack. By the time he would run away, I would get 40-50 AP at the end of the fight. It would eventually slow down, but by that time I had the grid almost completely activated anyway.
95% sure they dont even ahve to have an action just switch them in and right back out to get xp
you can switch characters endlessly in the same turn if you wanted, but they would get no exp if they dont actually use a turn. 5% won!
So with the Dark Aeons and Penance:
From what I'm reading these generally take 2 separate armor sets, Break HP Limit for Penance and without for the Aeons. I figure you really only need to gear 3 people up, so I was thinking Yuna, Tidus, Rikku. If you were only going to make 1 armor set (without Ribbon) for both fights what would it look like?
Auto-Phoenix
Auto-Haste
Auto-Protect
Something else?
Defense+20% or whatever the equivalent is (haven't played in a while)
Ive tried to switch in everybody during a fight.
Except Kimharhi. Hes useless.
From what I hear supernova is a bunch of multiple hits in the international version, rather than a single powerful one. Even if it wasn't, I like having kimahri around for his versatility.
(it's in no way because I think he's one of the coolest characters in the game, really!)
There's also the fact that nova ignores the targets magic defense, meaning even highly defensive enemies are totally smashed by it. Having white wind and mighty guard is nice as well.
