They're fun to find the first time around. Every time after that I'd rather load it up from the beginning. Even the Ultimate Weapon side quests can be cumbersome.

I really like replaying with the primers found because that lets you understand all the Al Bhed dialogue you couldn't the first time through.

Shouldn't have went through ~Will~ and read up on the backstory on the X-2.5 novel. That was a roller coaster of emotions and now I'm sad.

If you guys haven't already go through that, don't do it.

Yea, they went all sorts of dumb after X-2. It was the dumbest shit imaginable.

Take Bleach writing and imagine it's dumber than that.

So, I'm at the last fight against Sin and I clocked around 32 hours. This has to be the shortest FF I've played not counting optional content, the story/world felt incredibly small, that's probably why I disliked it so much back then, coming from FF7~9 it's a huge step down.

I was never a fan of 10 but I think you're underestimating how quickly you can get through some of the older FFs if you don't faff around.

I did a no-materia run through of 7 a long time ago that I think ended on something like 23 hrs.

For what it's worth, speedrun records of X are about 2 hours longer than speedrun records of 7-9. Not a perfect measure, but should give a decent idea of the length of mandatory portions.

Not that length should matter at all towards enjoying a game.

The chocobo racing 0 second thing was a lot easier on my replay than it was as a kid.

So, I caved and bought this on Steam about a week ago,(don't know how much I will be able to play it, butwe'll see wat happens lol) with the first two Al Bhed messages in the submerged ruins I unlocked 21/26 letters in the Al Bhed alphabet just by assuming "dra", which came up a lot in those messages was "the". Only took about 20 minutes to crack, but it was fun, lol.

Also, when I started the game I got some message about choosing between the normal sphere grid or an expert sphere grid, so I figured wth and tried the expert sphere grid, biggest mistake I made on there since I haven't played it in awhile, all the abilities and shit seem completed jumbled to hell, there is like no rhyme or reason to the pathing, a lot of characters paths seems like they right into other characters paths no matter which way you turn, maybe it might have been cooler after a first playthrough, but not right off the bat. it's more annoying than anything else.

Expert Sphere Grid kind of is there to give more choice for each character. Since I think you could take them down any other character's route at the beginning of the game instead of having to wait until later in the game to do so. The one major drawback to it was the fact that it has less spaces overall which leads to less potential stat maxing.

....I think that is how it worked anyways, been a while.

Of which doesn't really matter, as you can still max out your stats to the max**.

** Some attributes aren't required to reach the max for that particular attribute. You don't need Maxed Evasion, as its instead affected by Luck. ~Something like that.

TL/DR: makes no difference which Sphere Grid you end up choosing.

Doesn't Expert grid let you do 'different' stuff, like make Yuna head over to BLM grid much faster then standard? I do agree at the end it doesn't do much, but it does help for the start no?

Expert unlocks the starting spheres so you can customize earlier.

Wowww the game looks amazing on PC. I did pick this up for PS3 during its initial release, and I regret that now because it looked like shit on PS3 comparatively. The detail you can see in the environments and on characters now makes the world feel so much more convincing and alive. Really looking forward to sinking lots of hours into these games and getting the cheevs.

Also, this is my first time playing X with Japanese voices. As someone who speaks moon, there are some things I want to say about it (though I'm currently only up to the part where the party leaves Besaid for the first time). First, the North American script actually adheres very closely to the Japanese script. I'm genuinely impressed at the translation and editing effort here. I naturally assumed that there were a lot of liberties taken with the NA script, but it seems that isn't the case at all. Yes, there are some very inconsequential lines of dialogue that were completely changed, added or subtracted, but in every case I've seen so far the English dialogue has been more interesting with added lore.

Second, the voice actors. Disappointingly, I find that Tidus is just as bad in Japanese as in English. He is clearly written to be whiny, but it's more than that. It seems the directing effort failed at times, as often it sounded like the actor was merely reading off a script more woodenly than he should be. The right inflection just isn't there. And yes, his voice itself is just as annoying as in English. I had hoped to get away from Tidus's grating vocals by switching to Japanese, but nope.

Wakka - equivalent to English. I actually prefer his English voice just because of who voices him, but they practically sound the same with the same type of delivery.
Lulu - I didn't dislike her English voice, but I prefer her Japanese one. They're both good though.
Rikku - equivalent to English. Her English voice actress did a great job, especially with the Al Bhed speech. Japanese Al Bhed is weird.
Yuna - is clearly the biggest improvement over English. I liked the timbre of Yuna's voice more in English (her jp voice is one of them squeaky asian girl voices) but her Japanese voice actress delivers lines SO MUCH BETTER.

Also, O'aka speaks in Kansaiben (dialect from area of Japan that includes Osaka and Kyoto)... Osaka... O'aka....yeah. Can't believe I never knew about that one.

Overall, at this point, I'm not really getting people who whine that the game is so much better in Japanese. It's actually...not. It's barely an improvement.

After the years I've accepted the voice acting for what it is. I've been replaying Castlevania SOTN and it's a version with redone voice acting/dialogue, and it's just not the same.
