If their pricing, selection, and most importantly number of effin' titles they keep in stock is better than gamefly then I might be interested in this. Just dropped gamefly about 4 months ago due to them almost never having the game that I wanted in stock and having to wait weeks/months while I paid them for nothing. One improvement we will make at launch is to add a video games upgrade option, similar to our upgrade option for Blu-ray, for those who want to rent Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 games. Members have been asking for video games for many years, and now that DVD by mail has its own team, we are finally getting it done.
And to reflect everyone else's opinion on everything else...yeah the rest sucks...
I know I spent a lot of time browsing their selection looking for something to stream and everytime I looked for something I wanted to watch it wasn't there to stream. And there was a separate "things you can stream" section which wasn't broken into genres, so you couldn't even search a list of streaming titles by genre.
two websites are retarded.. and I bet its to help their stock w/ plummeted by dividing the company into 2 entities w/ 2 different stock figures. Still think it will backfire since the entire thing about netflix has been being able to do streaming and DVD's on one site under one company. If you wanted to stream something and saw it wasn't available, it was only a click away to get it as a DVD/Blu-Ray instead
Still don't care, got the e-mail this morning, I've only used streaming through my ps3. Doesn't affect me whatsoever. If it's not on instant, I see what's on FiOS on-demand.
I too am waiting to see just what the gaming side of things looks like. I have had a 2 game plan with GameFly for about 3 years now and the only way it works is if I manipulate the queue to only have launch titles in it, and nothing else. I hate that.
I have my doubts though that Netflix can deliver what I want faster... not with the price of games compared to movies and the number of subscribers they (still) have over GameFly. We will see.
As to the rest, my total DVD 4 Discs + Instant bill went up exactly $4 altogether. That isn't going to kill me in teh slightest.
Random quote I saw on Twitter that made me laugh:
The Netflix Letter forgot 2 mention a 3rd service FlixQuix which only delivers VHS & Laserdiscs and punches you in the nuts when they arrive
Someone should have told Netflix that @Quickster on Twitter is already taken. Ditto for Facebook.
Ugh...what is this fiasco? I don't even understand what the fuck is going on any more...
my typo
Say hello to @Qwikster
So what's the over/under on how long until the current Netflix CEO is canned and someone competent is brought in to try and revive the company? I'm putting it at 5 months.
I like how the Qwikster guy on Twitter now has over 5,000 followers despite having quite possibly the worst Twitter profile ever. This is a foolish move by Netflix, I'm truly astonished at how badly they have messed up their business. Losing movie rights is one thing but now they have lost customer loyalty which is even worse. You can afford to take risks when you have a great product and/or the marketplace lacks competitors but their product now stinks and they are several more options compared to even 2 years ago.
Also for people trying to wait it out for games don't even bother, there's a reason why Gamefly charges more and it's because games simply cost more. Thinking you will get 1 game for $8/month isn't a sustainable business model given the initial cost of games and how quickly the resale value on games diminishes. I've heard Gamefly actually breaks even with their 1 game for $14.95 offering and where they make money is the 2 game service and their used/refurbished sales.
Finally this "Qwikster" will have to rebrand their packaging as well once they start shipping games to avoid theft, a problem Gamefly has had since day 1 and is why their mailers are white instead of bright orange. Watch them come out with some quirky bright green mailer though and wonder why their theft rates are through the roof...
I like how I got charged for the upcoming month 3 days ago... yet when I go to cancel I have to return all the movies I currently have w/in 7 days... wtf is this shit
Hmm Twitter (and Facebook if they haven't) should make a way to allow official <insert company name here> make Twitter accounts with whatever name they want.
Like maybe twitter.com/official/<insert name here> for example?
I like how everyone is using twitter and facebook recently (sure beats Myspace >.>) but it's getting harder and harder for companies to make new twitter accounts when random users are taking them all.
I call semi bs on this tbh. Only reason is while Blockbuster's "netflix" sucks because their streaming sucks, their prices are pretty equivalent to netflix when it comes to by-mail service and that includes games. (can have 2 discs at a time for $15)
https://www.blockbuster.com/signup/m/plan/
We (hubby and I) debated dropping netflix's dvd service but keeping the stream, and picking up blockbuster instead. Initially though we decided we wanting to not deal with two subscriptions but now....lol.
We'll probably wait and see what this new one will be like with games, 'cause let's face it, netflix is 100x faster than blockbuster or gamefly. But ya, I don't think the prices will be too different, but if they are we may just use blockbuster instead.
