it doesn't necessarily suck for fantasy though especially in terms of longevity. he slowed down a lot at the end of last year right? or if it means he's less likely to to get hurt. They aren't necessarily saying they will turn the rush offense into split carries or by committee I think they've just been looking for someone to take a slight load off of Hillis so he can maintain at 100%

First Time Hall of Fame Candidates
Retired coaches Bill Cowher, Bill Parcells and Marty Schottenheimer are among the modern-era candidates for the 2012 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Cowher is eligible for the first time, as are Keyshawn Johnson, Tiki Barber, Drew Bledsoe, Stephen Davis, Rod Smith, Will Shields, Troy Vincent and Mike Vanderjagt.

Parcells and Schottenheimer previously were eligible under different requirements.

In 2008, the Hall of Fame made it mandatory for coaches, like players, to be retired five consecutive seasons. Before that, coaches were eligible immediately upon retirement, allowing Parcells to be a nominee in 2001, 2002, and 2003, and Schottenheimer in 2000. This is their first year of eligibility under the new provision.

    Kenny Britt officially on IR
    Spoiler: show
The Tennessee Titans have placed receiver Kenny Britt on injured reserve and signed Donnie Avery to fill his spot on the roster.

The Titans announced the moves Wednesday just before practice.

Britt tore both his ACL and MCL in his right knee during last week's 17-14 win over Denver. He will need surgery within the next two weeks to repair the damage, but the injury left Tennessee (2-1) with only four receivers. The Titans worked out a handful of receivers Tuesday.

The 5-foot-11 Avery was a second-round pick in 2008 out of Houston by St. Louis. He had 100 catches for 1,263 yards and eight touchdowns but missed the 2010 season after tearing his right ACL against New England on Aug. 26. The Rams cut him Sept. 3.

    Giants Injury Updates
    Spoiler: show
New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham and defensive end Osi Umenyiora practiced on Wednesday.

Manningham suffered a concussion last week against the Rams and did not play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Although he was listed as a limited participant, Manningham said he did "everything."

"I'm good," Manningham said. "I went out there and practiced the individual. Did team. I did everything. Feel better."

Umenyiora practiced on a limited basis for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee on Aug. 19.

"There will be [limitations] but I don't think he thinks of it as any kind of limitation," coach Tom Coughlin said. "I'm hoping we can have one good day and then no repercussions the next day and that will help us understand what we got. I would like Osi to have some practice time. He definitely needs to spend some time on the field with his teammates and put him back in those situations."

Defensive end Justin Tuck did not practice due to pain in his neck and a strained groin. But Coughlin sounded optimistic about Tuck for this week.

"He won't practice but he has made good progress both days, and we are very encouraged by that part," Coughlin said.

As one receiver returned to practice, another one went down. Brandon Stokley left practice with a strained quadriceps.

Coughlin also said that rookie cornerback Prince Amukamara still is "a ways" away from returning to practice. Amukamara has been out since early in training camp with a broken foot.

Manningham said he experienced sensitivity to light last week but assured reporters on Monday that he will practice this week and play on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

"I feel better than I felt before I went out for the walkthrough last week," Manningham said. "Sensitivity to light ... I don't have none. I'm good."

In his absence, Victor Cruz shined against the Eagles, finishing with three receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
