I also remember Finch being at the hospital, following john, after john finds out his "girl back home" is dead. Ie, Finch has been following john since at least his failure in shanghai to retrieve the case.

I took that scene to be more that he had received 2 numbers at once -- one for the John's former girlfriend, and one for her husband. The girlfriend was the victim who was murdered by her husband, but then he was murdered by John (if I'm remembering that part correctly). In fact, wasn't that scene at the hospital when John found out she had died? I imagine he went and killed her husband right after that or something.

At some point, I wanna look over the timeline for the show and see what the sequence of the show was. For instance, how long ago did Finch give out this laptop, when did John come back, when did Nathan die, etc.

Hmm, yeah, it could have been that finch just got john's number or the husband's since the machine could have figured out john will kill the husband.

Dunno why it made more sense to me that finch was being underhanded again and somehow orchestrated john's demise lol

Finch obviously planned for the case where he'd get captured by someone and forced to provide the phone location since he either had the machine call 2 different numbers with only one being 'correct' or he had dummy recording prepped to route to his kidnappers phone and the real call to another, where John was.

I was waiting for Nathan and Finch to get in a fight when he started the backdoor termination and that would explain how Finch got his limp, but I guess that remains to be seen. Maybe it happened when he tried doing John's job before John. Wonder if Finch ever found out Nathan was on the irrelevant list? Maybe that is what pushed him to start following the list.

Regarding John's last mission, if the government didn't know Nathan had a silent partner in building the machine how did they know to go after that laptop? The naive part of me wants to say that maybe Finch sold the laptop but thought it was clean of anything machine-relevant info when it wasn't, but that seems very unlikely. If he sold the laptop with the purpose of getting John removed he would have had to know or make sure that John would be assigned. And that he knew about John long before that if he was going to terminate John's job just so that he could carry out Finch's work. Was John's ex killed before the laptop mission? I feel like it was after.

No, she was alive when he went on the laptop mission -- might have died the same night though. She called him, he said he'd be there in 24 hours, and then he went on the mission where he supposedly died.

Finch was definitely doing something with the laptop/code, but I do not think he was responsible for having Reese go after it, and killing everyone in the compound. I cannot believe that, even though its what they want us to believe lol.

So not as mind blowing as I was expecting, but still a really good episode. Glad they answered so many questions while leaving plenty of things open to continue with.

And man, Root needs to go off on her own adventures with Shaw, it'd be awesome~

I like how the show pretty much keeps an even pace throughout the season. I think they could do with more of a bang with the finales but if they keep with the whole "evenly spaced plot throughout the whole season instead of just being procedural with tiny bits of plot in the last 2 minutes of an episode" I will stay happy.

I think after being hit by the viruseption, the machine's memory no longer reset? So it'll keep sending relevant numbers to the government, non-relevant to Jon and act as a big sister to root.
