Chocobos and Airships (09/22/2011)

Yes, we wait for it to grow for 30 days, so it can run slower than a rental chocobo. We need to do a 6h quest and run to the middle of nowhere to even get to ride the rental bird.

The animations are different, the texture is different, the music is different, the whole fucking bird is different (but it's still a chocobo). We don't raise it to race, we raise it to rip the heart out of the Gaius van Dickhead's chest.

Other than that, it's a mount that you use to get from place A to B faster than on foot. It does what it's supposed to do. You have no case.

Looks like the game is finally turning into FFXI-2.

They should take the good things from FFXI.

I would like to see BCNM, small solo NMs (Leaping lizzy), and assault make there way to FFXIV.

I'm just happy to see that getting a superior personal Chocobo doesn't take a month of babysitting. I hope the names are not mix/match words again.

Interesting that it's going to be a big ol' Chocobo sassage fest. I guess they'll put females birds in in some way when it comes time for Choco relations.

At the time you acquire your chocobo, you will be given the opportunity to name your new adventuring companion.
* All company chocobos are male.

Glad they chocobos are all male, but I doubt that will stop the bronies from naming their chocobos after their favorite MLP.

OK, well this is one of my first big "get off my lawn" moments with FFXIV, but seriously... you just... get everything? No missions, nothing special, it's just there? (Spending 3000 seals hardly counts, as you get something like 6000-7000 by doing what's currently available anyways).

Where's the sense of achievement? Seriously, why even have rental birds when it's so crazy easy to get your personal one anyways? I really thought the difference was going to be because you actually would have to work to get a personal chocobo, and not everyone would be able to do so quickly or easily.

New soapbox: the biggest thing missing from FFXIV is anything that'll give you a sense of pride or accomplishment. I could write an essay on that alone.

I think the Chocobo immersion and content expansion is going to be in the ability to customize, breed, sell, buy, equip, decorate, etc.

Consider this 3,000 seal bird as the base model until that content is fleshed out.

I'm not sure what lvl you are, but for the 50s that have completed Darkhold, of course this will be easy to get.

To get your own chocobo you have to:
-Get at least lvl 22 to start doing grand company stuff
-Obtain 3k seals. W/O darkhold and completing all the quests besides it you get 1.75k right now.

The 3k seals is probably not an issue to most on BG, however to a new player or unskilled player that hasn't completed Darkhold it will be quiet a task getting to 3k unless they make it relativly easy to get more seals this patch.

Like an event that gives everyone 1000 free seals? Or Company quest where you escort an NPC of avian nature?

It's pretty much hinging on how many seals these Chocobo Caravan quests yield... or any other company quests they may be adding.

Well seeing as it is repeatable, I would think it takes out any challenge in getting a company chocobo. And WHY should there be a gd challenge?

Yeah I just read about that 1k in other thread, pretty much on the the amount from Caravan, I'd hope 100 seals at most per considering you get 4k from doing darkhold once and not repeatable.

As far as the challenge aspect, I mean work / effort, because there is a rental available to 10+. There should be some work / sense of accomplishment involved with being able to call and ride one on the fly imo.

This is how I look at it for airships/chcocobo for a sense of progress and accomplishment-

0 - 10: You're right outside the city, you can deal with walking.
10+ I can ride a chocobo to any part of the region if need be
25+ Finish a quest or something, be able to ride an airship to any city
35~45+ Be able to obtain my own chocobo to call anywhere
