There is trouble on both end of the spectrum, and physicist know that for a while. That's why they are trying to build new theories (ex:String Theory) that could explain most of the exceptions we encounter, but every attempts failled.

As for being "complete", no theory will be. The best you can do is try to find one that leave as little mysteries unresolved, but generally every new theories bring new problems. There is always "something else"

Technically, the theory of relativity is what breaks down when you reach plank scale, not the "law of physics". These laws are unlikely to change at any scales.

So is the idea of bending time and space around a ship knocked out of the question? Or am I just slow on all of this?

Either way, it's all quite interesting!

The only method we know that bend space is having a large mass, but doing this isnt going to help you.

dear everyone who thinks that surpassing the speed of light isn't a big deal, or that any self-respecting scientist would publish such results without checking the shit out of it: think again.

it may not topple all physics as we know it on its ass, but the probability that this is one of the top 5 important discoveries to occur in any of our lifetimes up til now is not 0.

"We don't allow faster then light neutrinos in here" said the bartender. A neutrino walks into a bar.

But even IF we made faster than light travel? It would still take us while to get anywhere within our own solar neighborhood.

For us maybe. Technically the astronauts would get there near-instantaneously.

Entirely hypothetical of course, I don't see such a thing being possible even in the distant future.

the point isn't really FTL space travel, it's

    a) total reevaluation of physics,

    b) computing.

even if (a) settles and blows over, the very possibility of faster than light information exchange is huge.

What mankind has accomplished until now doesn't amaze you? The computers we build? Our spacecraft that travel to other planet? Nuclear fusion? The things we see that are billions of time smaller than what our eyes normally see?

I don't know about you, but I'm seeing a lot of incredible thing in my life.
