With that top gear backround, in the warehouse, I swear it took me a second to see the logo on the bottom before I said "Holy shit that's not even real".
Something tells me the game won't really look like that for some reason though =( Either that or something else major will suffer as a consequence.
Today is "demo day" for gold members. I got early access to the demo through a promotion on Friday and played it quite a bit. There's not a whole lot to the demo but it is still a good look at the game.
You have access to two modes in the demo, Quick Race and Rivals Mode (names may be slightly off).
In Quick Race you have access to three different cars. An old muscle car (the name escapes me), the Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and the Ferrari 458. Your opponents change based on what car you choose (probably obvious, but worth mentioning). You get two decently long laps in this mode and then you get the "Buy our game on October 11th!" screen which then takes you back to race selection.
Rivals Mode is a bit different and it requires you to be signed into Xbox Live. Here you can either select a "Rival" or let the game do it for you. Basically what happens is it pulls a time closest to yours off the global leaderboard (or your friends if you happen to have any!) and imports their run into your game and you race against them. They are a "ghost" so you can't slam into them or anything, but you can see them plainly just like any other computer ai car on the track.
You can choose from three different cars in this mode, the Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster, the 2012 BMW M5, and once again the Ferrari 458.
If/When you beat your "Rival's" time, you get the choice to either finish or continue the race. Basically if you want to do lap after lap after lap in the demo, this is your mode.
The new and improved lighting system they use makes the game look gorgeous. The game appeared to run at a consistent 60 frames per second and the physics seemed excellent. What really got me are the sounds. The cars really sound authentic, perhaps more than any other racing game I've played (definitely better than GT5). For me, all the polygons and car options in the world just isn't enough when the cars sound completely fake.
All in all, I though the demo looked and played great and I can't wait for next week.
Demo is amazing. And holy shit, sure the graphics are good and the physics and great, but the MENUS... good lord. best looking game menu I've seen in a while. The all-black is so much better than 3's all-white.

Dang, didn't realize this was quoted. Avelle, edit your post to delete me comment please; catching flak due to information embargo.
The Source, its like a canadian Radio Shack. Its not a small store by any means. They should be on sale nation wide because after I bought the regular, I went to another one asking for LE and the guy said they didnt have an SKU for the LE (meaning they wont get it), but that SKU for the regular one was "active" (which i take it means its for sale in all their stores).
So how was your night of car porn Skidz? How is career mode?
Looks like the review embargo was lifted today.
4.5 out of 5 from Joystiq
10 out of 10 from Destructoid
9.5 out of 10 from IGN
If you like racing games and own a 360, I don't see how you could pass on this.
Are there any stores that let you pre-order online, then pick up in stores? All the usual places I've seen have in-store pickup disabled for it.![]()
So I got to play with some devs last night and the online is a blast. We tried Tag virus with I think 12-14 people and there was no noticeable lag. The hit-detection for the cars is very good. Cat and mouse with 16 people is CRAZY! Someone mentioned to the devs that it would be a good idea to try and add 4 teams of 4 for cat and mouse and they said they would look into it. Circuit racing was as you'd expect; with 12+ people, the first corner will be hell. I wanted to see Car Soccer in action, but the devs said there was an update needed for it which wasn't out yet. However, I was able to create a custom game and atleast see the soccer field by myself (2 field sizes to choose, looks like an airhockey table, rounded corners so ball wont be stuck anywhere). The storefront and auction house is exactly like 3's, which is fine. There's a new "player card" feature like Call of duty games which makes it easy to show of your feats/achievements.
There's another community night with the devs tomorrow, so I'll post more impressions then. And regarding the reviews, I'm not sure what else this game could do to earn a perfect score from joystiq and IGN, I think it easily deserves a 10/10.
So is this an racing sim to compete with gran turismo, or an arcade game to compete with need for speed?
Yes, definitely a racing sim, but there's a lot of fun game modes available for those that may not like serious racing.
I don't know what you're looking for in a racing game, simulation or "action," but Forza has all kinds of assists you can enable/disable to make the game as simulation or arcade as you could want. It probably won't ever play like a NFS title (the regular games, not their pseudo attempt at sim racing Shift titles) but it is definitely accommodating for any play level. The demo is out if you haven't played it yet and have gold membership. Silver gets it tomorrow.
Amazon has the LE back in stock with $0.99 release-day-delivery shipping for anybody interested.
EDIT: And DeepDiscount has it for $70, free shipping if you don't mind getting it a little later. http://www.deepdiscount.com/video_ga...nect-Compatibl
EDIT2: If I download all the extra LE cars through my Xbox Live account, will a separate, non-Live account be able to access those cars?
