Seems like the game i getting mostly positive reviews, with the big draw backs being that Co-Op seems forced and the game feels less "dead space" this time around.
Is it fair to say this is the Resident Evil 5 of the dead space series? Some of the core aspects are gone, replaced by better combat? Not exactly a bad game, but not what you're expecting if you're a huge fan of 1 and 2?
I'm not sure if I know which 'core aspects' would be included in that. Can't talk to the fear/suspense edge til I play through the story, it still has the same cheap OOGA BOOGA shit-jumps-at-you scares. From what I played of the demo the universal ammo seems like less of an issue due to increased enemy difficulty(at least to me it felt like shit ran at you fast as hell). According to the multiplayer descriptions there's still several points where they isolate each person, but I have to guess that's not a largely substantial amount of the time so I guess that'd be the main difference.
What would you think was in the first two that isn't in this(not being snippy here, legitimitely curious)?
so, minor item description spoiler
Spoiler: show

Dead Space 3 is out today, and you can start waiting for more as soon as you get it. That's thanks to the announcement of the "Awakened" DLC, due in March for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360, at a $10 price point.
While narrative details are absent, EA does reveal that you'll "experience the franchise's darkest chapters as the Necromorph battles become even more gruesome and terrifying than ever before." Executive producer Steve Papoutsis calls Awakened "some of the most disturbing content" in any Dead Space game. So if you like being terrified and ... grued? ... you'll want to check this out.
They Michael Bayd it.
I don't think it's so much about what's missing that seems to be making it lose it's feel, it's more what was added that changes the pace of the game. I've not had a chance to play the game myself to find out if the upped action actually does take away from what I loved about Dead Space 1&2, but that seems to be what most are complaining about.
I WANT MY GAME KYO
That actually sums it up quite nice. The pacing and atmosphere of 1 and 2, those were my favorite parts of the game. The demo was more then likely not a good representation of these things, so I'm waiting for people here to play it to tell me what it's like. I bought the other two on special before I knew how good the series was, I'd pay full price for this if it's quality is the same as the others.
Id say it sounds more like RE6 of the Dead Space series, but now w/ moar cash shop. So not necessarily a bad game, just not maybe what people necessarily wanted from a sequel? Story also sounds very loose. While 1 and 2 were basically fetch quests and running around to get to people, the actual underlying story was what pushed everything forward so the game didn't feel like a giant fetch quest. This time around it seems like there is very little story unto very late into the game, and its the fetch quests that drive the story instead of... you know... actual story
except re6 is pretty objectively a disaster. re5 seems a more apt comparison
not going to watch too much to avoid spoilers, but I like what's there
Opening of the game is bad really really bad. The human AI is full blown retarded, and the cover system is derpy at best. Thankfully once you get away from the human enemies the game does play just like the other two games, so I'm hoping that the human parts will be few and far between.
Shotgun is so OP in this game...and yet so necessary in some parts like Chapter 5.
They really pack on the monsters in this one. They make the last levels of dead space 2 seem empty in comparison.
There's an AI partner? that's news to me.
