On handhelds, and mostly when they're not called 'Final Fantasy' anywhere. We're talking about their flagship brand here and if the above applied to FF as it stands today we wouldn't have this discussion. To hand wave it as 'well the industry changed' begs the question of 'well how about not standing still as market demand/taste in RPGs evolves with an aging core fanbase?' and doesn't really begin to address what changed, how SE failed to recognize it, and where they are today in their plans to adapt.
