    Wisdom Tooth quesiton

So I was always told that my wisdom teeth came in with plenty of room and there wouldnt be any problem leaving them in, except for a little harder to clean. So I did just that, cleaned them thoroughly every morning nite, yet somehow still managed to get a cavity in my top one right at the base of the tooth, I'm fairly sure that one will have to be pulled. Not a problem, I hear the top ones are usually the fastest to heal and the easiest to pull.

Well I also discovered a small brown spot on the outside of my bottom wisdom tooth as well, assuming its a cavity. Well when I once thought about taking them out before, I was highly advised against it because my tooth roots and the nerve in my jawline were a big clusterfuck of a tangled mess and that pulling them would cause nerve damage and possible face paralysis.

So simply pulling it isnt an option. I dont even know how big the cavity is, but I have an appointment in a week. If it is a rather large cavity is there any way to fill it still without having to extract the tooth. Mainly because of my anxiety, my blood pressure and heart rate were always too sporadic to put me all the way under. Can anything be done under local anesthesia and laughing gas at all?

I realize the best answer will come from the oral surgeon himself, just wondering if anybody has any experience with this

What's the underlying issue with you being unable to be put under?

Also why is there a supposed risk of nerve damage from removal?

because the roots of the tooth are entangled with the nerves in my jawbone the dentist said.

as far as being put under, I just have fucking retarded anxiety and my BP and heart rate get too high and they feel uncomfortable putting me under with those conditions. Had to get rather large spot of melanoma cut out in 2004 and they tried it then and just said fuck it, just numbed the shit outta my arm and told me to turn my head lol.

I assume you're older than when people usually have them removed?

If you've only seen 1 surgeon about this maybe get a second opinion (if you can afford it) and the anxiety thing doesn't make much sense to me tbh, once you're under you're under in about 8 seconds.

Don't think you have to go all the way under these days, I got a root canal done with just local not too long ago.

There's no way for any of us to know why the hell anyone's worried about pulling them, really, so we can't really help.

    I'm 25

And I just get anxious going into doing it, it's weird, but nobody feels comfortable putting me under when my BP is that high.

Ive gotten a second and third opinion. All three say the bottom ones will be a pain. One mentioned just lopping the top off of it and leave it at that.

dentists dont want to pull them because they have the tendency to shatter, so to them its not worth it because they have to get a surgeon in anyway

when my shattered one was pulled, the guy took 30s to get it when there was hardly anything left, he was boss type awesome

Ask you dentist/ Oral surgeon about taking meds to help with anxiety. I know in my town there is a guy who specializes in people who have anxiety about dentist and give them Xanax before they come so they don't freak out. maybe something like that can be done.

i would also try to get 3 different people to look at your jaw nerves and such. It's always better to get a second and third opinion on such matters.

yeah sounds like you'd need to get a surgeon in. About the going under thing, what would you be more anxious about, getting gassed to have something good happen, or having rotting teeth in your mouth cause massive pain. The latter makes me more anxious and gets my BP up.

Last time I got gassed before I had a surgery, before they even took the mask out the lady asked what my favorite drink was. I was going to say captain and coke, but all I got out was captain before waking up in my room all done.

I was under the assumption he'd seen a surgeon about it already, wisdom tooth removal isn't a simple procedure.

When I had mine removed the surgeon fractured them deliberately and removed them in parts so they wouldn't potentially crack in random ways and wind up being more difficult to remove.

I have seen one surgeon and two dentist. Surgeon was the one who told me he could possibly just take the top of the tooth off, never really heard of that before.

Yeah knew it wasn't simple, was mainly wondering if anybody here had any nerve damage after taking theirs out like they are afraid may happen with me.

I'd never heard of it before but also never heard of shaving off the top of the tooth.

Maybe I'm understanding it wrong but wouldn't that just be a temporary fix until what's left of the tooth ends up getting a cavity?

They told me the same thing. I think it's possibly just a standard warning/caveat so that in the unlikely event it does happen you can't say you weren't aware it was a possibility.

    Mine got removed without issue.

it's a risk in any tooth removal process. my mom and dad both had nerves entangled etc with theirs, they just made sure to go to the best dental surgeons in the state. I was put under for my teeth, the recovery period ended up being about three weeks of unbelieveable pain

Ouch Solanis, sounds like you ended up with dry socket. (That's my guess anyway)

Topics like this remind me that I should probably do something about my wisdom teeth.

They don't exactly fit in my mouth and the teeth besides them are blocking their growth. Especially bad with the top ones, only the tip is visible. Rarely I get this tooth ache on the back of my mouth and it's probably related to this.

Teeth problems can be fucking scary...
