First of all, if they make a wind bow for Garuda it's safe to assume they are going to make wind weapons for the rest.

Like I've said in other posts, I want to see more then 1 fight per instance, it's bull shit to give one single difficult fight that is just here to cock block. If every update they are just going to make a gear check boss to delay people from beating it is pathetic. Beating a boss should mostly come from skill. Don't give a 30min timer to beat 1 boss if it isn't. Darkhold was not a gear check, and it was for the most part a fun and entertaining instance, with bosses that require skill to defeat.

My problem with Ifrit is you're in the middle of a beastmen stronghold. First of all that gives potential to have a beastmen boss and trash to fight while working towards Ifrit. Second you have Garlian forces show up during the lvl 30 cut scene. Why couldn't this been incorporated into a raid w/ them as another boss? At the end as a last ditch effort, the beastmen summon Ifrit to try to stop you. At a minimum 3 boss encounter raid. MASSIVE WASTED POTENTIAL.

Currently Ifrit is really just a quest with a battlefield fight at the end. Think of FFXI (DRG unlock quest). I don't think they ever intended to make an instance out of Ifrit - although it would have been nice.

Going forward I want instances to have multiple bosses (not just 1-2) with a super hard boss at the end. I agree with you that what they gave us with Ifrit was wasted potential.

Also, if you haven't done Darkhold since 1.18... you better go do that shit again. It's fairly difficult now. I still feel that they should give an incentive to kill trash though...

Edit: Ugh gotta upload 1.2GB video. This is gonna suck ass.

We're yet to see a cool raid with a good story line and bosses. I'd like to see something like Antony suggested be incorporated, it would fit the world and story setting and seem plausible.
The world still seems disjointed to me and this big threat of Garlean empire we all hear about is still a joke and lodestone jibberish.

They are "using up" the gear to create materia, which they can then use. I don't understand the problem.

From a development standpoint, this is the most compelling counterargument. I don't think it's a huge difference if the gear is sitting in your retainer (and therefore not being displayed) vs. turned into materia, but if the gear is so inferior to its materia that the first order of business (upon acquiring it) is to convert it, yeah, I see your point.

    Obviously.

I am tired of arguing about it. At this point, assuming they can create some sort of bazaar-based melding so others can fit materia on your Rare/Ex. I think allowing 1 materia slot for them would be an easy fix.

Gear check boss? Why are people taking it down to 20% already then? There's a trick to Ifrit that even Yoshida hinted at but I don't think anyone figured out completely right now.
Unless everyone is already fully geared with perfect materia I don't see how Ifrit is impossible to beat right now.
You can have raids if you want, they added 2 with this patch and one more is coming in 2 weeks. There's also a lower level raid available if you have a class that low and want a challenge.
And yes, I'm aware that they aren't instanced and don't have a timer but that doesn't change the nature of the content. You can also get spiritbond while doing it so I honestly don't see the problem.
The only issue is that rare/ex gear is obsolete with materia around but that is bound to change soon enough, right now they're probably trying to fix the economy of the game and get feedback on the whole thing. There's no other way to do that. I think sometimes you guys forget that we're still in beta right now.
Without a test server the only way to properly try things out is to release it and see how it goes.

There's no trick, it just requires flawless execution during the last bit. I've wiped between 10-20% more times than I can count. And it's certainly not a gear check.

They can just make it so that you put up the item you want slotted with materia in your bazaar like you would for a repair. Then have it so you put the materia you want slotted attached to that similar to how you can put in an item for trade in exchange for a repair. They would need to tweak the windows a bit to allow for payment for services, but it's basically the same thing as an item trade/repair through the bazaar interface.

Sure, the mechanics of it can be fixed with new code, but the point is it's an absolutely TERRIBLE idea from a playerbase standpoint. It'd bring drama second only to the HNM bullshit from FFXI, and I'd quite like to avoid that.

There are two good fixes: adjust the items themselves to be somewhere around a 2-slotted crafted gear, or allow one (and only one) materia to attach, and prevent the item from being destroyed. It's not that slotting raid gear can't be done, it's that it shouldn't be done.

Let me be more specific in what I'm proposing, because there seems to be some confusion:

There is a LOT of R/EX gear in the game that doesn't come from [whatever event you just finished grinding and are bitter about]. All of that R/EX gear, unlike its crafted equivalents, is USELESS once you outgrow it (be it by rank, or because better gear is released later). Why should it be only crafted gear that is capable of being useful after it is outdated?

And please, stop with the "you're destroying items that your shell Worked Hard To Get You!" garbage. It is a ridiculous and transparent excuse:

    - if my shellmate wants to convert his Lone Knight Mitts into something useful (instead of just dropping them), so much the better
    - if your shell allows people to continually monopolize the same item drops over and over for materia, that is a problem with YOUR SHELL'S leadership

Morons bitching about soloing being "impossible" are the worst thing to come out of this update. It's retarded beyond belief. This is what happens when you essentially pull the carpet under the "Veterans" feet yet they don't realize anything happened. Still trying to apply the same experiences and knowledge they had before to make sense of the new game.

Hell, starting from scratch it was clear that there are some design issues in the post-1.19 setting. Mainly the fact that level 1 leves are useless and should be skipped altogether in favor of saving the allowances for level 10+ leves (aside from the tutorial, those potions come in handy). So the game essentially leads you to play wrong.

But game mechanics wise, (even neglecting the fact that soon enough we'll all be a lot stronger due to manual allocation) there's no problem to be had at all. Maybe soloing is even too fast after a certain level. Soloing has never been more accessible activity than it is in 1.19. Yet these idiots are unable to comprehend any of it.

It'll be interesting to see how the low level economy shapes up though. So much excess gil in circulation doesn't really help. So far at least it's been relatively easy to make few hundred grands in the most simplistic way possible- selling shards and crystals. Not to mention the lower level equipment that can net you pretty nice profit since the mats are so cheap yet nobody is really making use of the fact.

If you can beat a fight within a week of release it's not a gear check boss at all.

    Re: materia and r/ex sucks,

I looked through FFXIVpro's database and noticed that the only gears that got worked over (from a DD's perspective) are weapons and hands. Both can socket STR, DEX, ATK and ACC materia, which effectively blows everything else out of the water. Body only gets cATK, legs get those half-and-half attribute materia, while head and feet offer no DD potential at all.

Both the new and some of the old r/ex, depending on your class, are desirable. The solution is for SE to simply stop producing r/ex hand armor!
