Lol, do people realize how stupid they sound to others who actually play the game? I get that it's the most popular thing to have experience with, but some people actually do. And when you spew idiotic nonsense like that, you're not going to get away with it.

And @Kuro, in the part of the vid where you asked: you didn't exp chain because the mobs were below your level. It works the same as XI.

So you're saying that shield skills are just as good and GLA is still godlike because of it? Because I have a 50 GLA and compared to before the shield skills fucking suck now.

Edit: Saying GLA is shitty now is like saying ARC is shitty now, because they fell the most. They were that good before the patch and now things are shitty for them they're more even with the rest of the classes.

The whole power level thing, its a damned if you do, damned if you don't type of deal. I had a RL friend come back to the game just because I told him I could catch him up, first time he logged on since october 18th of last year. A few people from my LS logged on who havent been on in almost a year as well because they heard it was easier for them to catch up.

Its working as intended imo, people are logging back on, if my LS had 4 people coming back around then its happening in other LS's as well.

The sad thing is all the whining is going to get it nerfed when imo the economy is such a bigger story with this patch. Power leveling is only a problem when you're trying to go to popular area's.

When people choose to power level friends its only hurting the person being power leveled, they're not going to have any clue on how to play their class, this is almost like people on WoW who get ran through instances by a buddy to level up and eventually they have no clue what to do in group play.

It's a delicate issue and, at least, Yoshida's decision comes from his vision.
It all comes down to friends who want to catch up fast, and friends who want to play together. Not a trivial topic in an MMO.

Cheap, spoiling PL sure ruins the spirit of a game. As much as any "unexpected, cheap way to PL that wasnt envisioned but still happens for a certain minority of the playerbase", AstralFlow parties come to mind, for ex.
What I mean is that if there has to be PL system, then I'd prefer it to be there in the open for anyone to enjoy.

On the other hand, FF11 Leve Synch only works to a certain extent. Players who are lv50 usually enjoy feeling all-mighty when helping their newbie friends out. Having someone re-grind his own levels sounds like something Yoshi is trying to steer away from : given how generously exp flows in beastmen stronghold, I'd say their goal is to push the grind out of the table as much as possibile.

If thats the "issue" of Level Sync, holy fuck bring it on. If helping a friend on his own terms is so much of a buzzkill then fuck this mr. all-mighty if you ask me.

I'd say their goal is to push the grind out of the table as much as possibile.
Why the hell do we even have levels then? Let us start from level 50 instead of making us sit there for 2 days which is quite irrelevant to all parties concerned, if any sort of grind is such a fucking taboo.

    What a shitty goal.

What was this about other people thinking in extremes?

Isn't this already pretty much as extreme as it gets? May as well go all the way (not that I'm in favor of this direction in the first place, but it's certainly better than this 2 day PL bullshit that helps nobody).

If leveling is going to be speed-leveling, why not at least skip the entire "I must waste my friend's time for 10 hours" part and just let us solo or duo up to 35-40 this fast? If the goal is to move people to endgame, why not move everyone? Why not give us a speed-leveling method that lets us play? Why leave new players or those without friends behind? At least this way, new players would benefit from the speed changes, not just those who know people that are actually playing.

They could've taken a lot of different approaches:

They could've let you chain mobs lower than you, they could've made time between chains longer, they could've added +300 exp to every mob, they could've quadrupled exp rewards from every quest.

All these things would accomplish the same thing as the PL system (speed leveling without needing a big party), but people would actually play while leveling.

Ah, yes... the standard "now people will level up too quickly and not learn their jobs!" argument that is trotted out any time the exp curve is bent in any fashion.

    This presumes two unrealistic factors:

    1) the strategies for <R40 parties are the same as the strategies for Things That Matter (note: they aren't)

    2) XIV tactics are so complicated and multifaceted that they take many days of tedious, repetitive training to learn (in actuality, they are easily mastered by a reasonably intelligent teenager)

And as for filling out the notebook on who can and cannot do their jobs based on lowbie exp parties... if you are already deciding that someone who sucked at R22 will suck at R50, what, exactly, are they supposed to have learned while going through the tedious rank-up process?

See, when you claim that something is already "as extreme as it gets," but in the next sentence, say that we "may as well go all the way", you're necessarily admitting that the current state is, in fact, NOT "as extreme as it gets."

I am perfectly fine with power leveling, its not an issue on any other game that allows it. I think its just butthurt people that loved 5k exp/hr grind parties on XI that expected the leveling process to be slow. You don't judge a game on mid-level content so that argument about "why have mid level content if people are going to blow thru it" etc doesn't fly here.

As for "Power leveling ruined my day!" threads, you only have yourself to blame by going into the mainstream area's. Did people honestly expect going into mun-tuy cellars, nawana mines expecting not to find someone getting power-leveled? Plenty of off the wall areas to level at, bout time people start using them.

Actually, looking from a wider perspective, FF14 levelling is shaping up as something with a lot of variety and different purposes:

    - PL? Well, besides the need of a friend willing to help you out for hours (or a chinese bot, probably), this nets no money (aside mobs drops), no equipments and no faction points.
    - Exp Party? Pretty fast, maybe quickest way to lv50 if you dont have your bf/gf/bff/chinabot to PL you, nets you nothing besides exp. To earn materia would mean to already have the gils to spend on more gear.
    - Solo Leves? Quite slow, but it gives you Faction Points (which they will put to a good use, I hope) as well as money. In the end, players need money.
    - Quests? Tiny exp rewards, but they grant money and equipments.

Considering you don't have to do anything, not even kill a single monster implies those who get leeched will suck more than those who don't. Experience that you gain over 50 levels that tells you how to react in certain situations, when you're being hit, when your allies are taking damage, when you lose hate, when you want to lose hate, how to not go overboard/knowing your limits, targeting etc. You lose a lot of that when you don't play for yourself.

Sure, XIV isn't that complicated and you can pick it up quickly. You seem to think I'm implying you become a strategic genius from leveling from 1-50 by yourself, I'm implying you'll simply be incompetent.

And finally, I'm not against PL being in the game. Frankly, I don't give a shit because I can choose how I want to level.

People sucked after 75 levels of old school FFXI. What makes you think that exping normally in XIV is going to magically make them better?
And why is this a huge issue when class gameplay is going to change drastically soon enough anyway? You'll have to learn how to play again.

The fact that other people are leveling a bit faster than you because their friends are helping them in no way effects you. Therefore it should not bother you. Don't like PLing? Don't do it. Problem solved.

And you gain the same experience leveling from 40-50. No one is being powerleveled at R40+ (it isn't even "powerleveling" at that point).

..for the hour of gameplay it takes you to learn your role?

I mean, how many hours do you think it takes to learn how to play a job correctly?

People did suck after 75 levels, but when you're forced to level with these people over a period of time, players become aware of who sucks, who's an asshole and who is really good. You know who to avoid and who you can rely on. This is another reason I dislike PL'ing, because it's hard to see how people really are in a party setting. Especially since they don't have to do dick, and likely can't do dick without getting squashed.

And if you don't think that actually playing a game, experiencing it and what not doesn't make you better, you're a damn fool. Or a damn genius who picks up everything at light speed. MMOs (and XIV in particular) isn't hard to play, but that doesn't mean you don't benefit from playing the game.

It doesn't take that long to "learn" a role, few hours doesn't make you master it. The point ultimately comes down to there are really bad players that just never become competent, there are some that need 1-50 to gain competence, and there are some that can pick up a job and be able to handle it easy from the start. Really comes down to where are you on the retard scale.

I think most people on the forms assume everyone has played an MMO before, if you have experience with another MMO, it generally helps you play better. People forget at one point they were a scrub too when they played their 1st MMO.
