Who the fuck cares what the reason is? It's a tremendous advantage that shouldn't exist. It shouldn't be even fucking possible.

1 rank 50 kills mobs for 7 others in the party at over 1k per kill.

2,100,000 exp yesterday for each player. (See screenshot)

Its only 1,700,000 to get from 1 to 50.

1-50 in a day is possible. Thanks SE! This seems much better. Leveling was dumb anyway.
Oh yeah, this kind of "bit faster leveling" (understatement of the millenia) doesn't make leveling a trivial process at all. The cultural meaning leveling once had is lost- therefore it affects me as well. I don't exist in a fucking bubble even though I'm sure Kuro would be retarded enough to think so. If leveling is going to be made into such a joke, fuck yes it affects how the society (which I am a part of) sees leveling as a whole.

Talking about "learning experience" is retarded. It either takes dedication or no dedication. If the latter, why the fuck does it exist? It has no other purpose.

This kind of technically-true-but-meaningless anecdote is the reason why these complaints are oh-so-unconvincing.

First of all, taking the xp from a bunch of jobs PLed from 1-30, adding it up, and saying, "See! This is 1-50 in a day!" is idiotic. It's like someone going from LV1-10 on five different jobs in XI, then adding it up and saying "Look, I got 50k/hr total, therefore I can solo from 1-75 in one day (16 hours at 50k/hr) no problem!"

Second, these parties that get a bunch of jobs PLed to 50... are they comprised of newbies with R1 characters starting from scratch? Of course not. They are comprised of people who already have R50s. These parties have members rotating R50s so everyone can benefit. What does this have to do with fresh-faced rookies setting their first foot in Eorzea? NOTHING AT ALL.

If you have already grinded out an R50, guess what? You have earned the right to (effectively) PL yourself in a rotating group, grinding out additional support abilities.

In the end what does it matter? Not like they going to be pumping out max lvl characters to camp Fafnir against you or something. If players want to do this aspect of this game like that so be it. It's actually a nice that friend can help you catch up and play with them. I dont know about your server but on mine I cant even find people to exp with so for some it's this and playing with their friends or soloing leves and exp to catch up for some sort of acknowledgment from others.
Maybe when PS3 version gets released we will have bunch of new players we can exp with. Maybe they will fix the chat, maybe they will add non retarded party search option. Maybe than lvling will be more enjoyable, but right now reliable and enjoyable exp party is so rare before strongholds that I personally find myself extremely frustrated and though I enjoyed the patch I have no incentive to log in. I expect to play with others when I play MMOs and at this point if it means getting PLed by a friend to 50 so be it, rather do that than do 30 leves at Camp Drybone alone which is what I ended up doing yesterday.

PLing can exist in this game since it exists in other games (even FFXI - hello to you BRD75 buffs for lowbie then drop). The way it is now is clearly a overpowered since it is too fast.

I'm not concerned that it's in the game since it won't hinder my playstyle. I'm more trying to figure out why you, who doesn't play the game, is so concerned. Your reasoning is not exactly valid. lol

@Spider-Dan and others - I agree that while exping slow does help you learn the game, it isn't needed.

I remember partying with someone who was playing someone else's character (PLD) - Said person did not know how to play but I managed to teach them within 15 mins [just setting macros and when to use sentinel, etc]. Inb4 if they played that job before, then 15 minutes wouldn't have been wasted in the first place!

Don't get me wrong, people who do play the slow way are probably more "competent" than people who just jumped into a high level job/class they never touched before but it only usually takes 10-15 minutes or so to teach them what to do and it's no big deal at all if they're "willing to learn" (very important that they are of course.)

As for end game or battlefield activities (kiting, positions, etc) those people need to learn at end game or at said battlefield (when do people ever kite in exp parties >.>?)

If the goal is to move people to endgame, why not move everyone? Why not give us a speed-leveling method that lets us play? Why leave new players or those without friends behind? At least this way, new players would benefit from the speed changes, not just those who know people that are actually playing.

They could've taken a lot of different approaches:

They could've let you chain mobs lower than you, they could've made time between chains longer, they could've added +300 exp to every mob, they could've quadrupled exp rewards from every quest.

All these things would accomplish the same thing as the PL system (speed leveling without needing a big party), but people would actually play while leveling.
    Agreed.

It's actually one of the things I disliked about AF parties (and yes I participated in them but no I totally leveled SMN the "hard way" [aka healing in exp parties] before joining]):

AF parties were basically a free way to get from level 10-75 if you had a decent group. Problem? Well maybe only 5% or so out of the active population ever got to really do AF parties (regularly.) Another problem? SMN items are now more in demand (thanks to everyone having SMN 75) and sucks to anyone who leveled SMN the old slow way and had to compete with these AF SMNs for items.

At the time I wanted SE to *patch it or at least make leveling in general more faster and funner.

*I felt bad for my friends who played SMN the old way and had to compete with the Astral Flow SMNs who wanted items (Yin Yang Robe become as camped as kings anyone? I already had YYR but still I felt bad for some of my friends who played casually and never managed to get one due to overcampness and being busy IRL to not be able to camp it every time [yep good old 21 hour spawns amirite?.])

So yeah that's actually one thing I disliked and can understand - People level faster on a "boring job" (SMN for example) and there's suddenly a ton more competition for said job's item. Hey I leveled the job the old boring way, I demand first priority for said job/class items!

Though since this is a new game and leveling isn't too bad in the first place + as long as it isn't some items from some world spawn 21-24 hour NM spawn it'll be okay I'd assume.

So yeah I do agree they should change the PL thing to something else (either make exping faster in general or something else.)

Its not too late for any of those changes, Solracht. Its going to take some time for this "brand new, generous" SE to figure out what works and what doesn't, what people do and don't like, and what they're comfortable allowing the players to do. I never thought I'd see the day where we'd be talking about half of the "features" being discussed in a SE product. Give it some time, since it seems obvious that they're going all the way with trying to turn this ship around, no matter how long it takes.

I fear that this will simply lead to a much harsher leveling environment at 50+.

I logged in for the first time to check how the patch was, and my friend made me go get PL'd. That was boring as hell, yet there were so many people doing it. If that's how people prefer to level, then no thanks. :\

Allowing PL'ing will destroy the sanctity of leveling. What's next? Goats?

This. It's the same argument as exists in XI regarding Abyssea power-levelling, but even more extreme. I agree with Hyan - if you're going to render the 1-50 grind and, by extension, low/middle-game content almost entirely irrelevant by making it easily circumventable, you might as well just allow characters to be created at rank 50 from scratch. I personally believe low/middle-game content to be an important component of an MMORPG as a whole, as without it the concept of end-game breaks down, and with that you lose the sense progression and the sense of achievement that is integral to the MMORPG experience.

Still, FF14 has multiple classes to be grinded. The game is far from "cleared" once your first class gets to 50.

I'd really see someone taking his fav disciple to 50 "the good way", and then indulge in some PL. The game is exactly the same, after all.
This becomes even more relevant taking the skill system into account, as one could level another class just for the sake of certain specific actions to be equipped on his main, like Defender II on GLA.

Sounds like the current PL system was unintended? What Yoshida meant was for a low level player to claim a mob, then have a high level finish it off from outside the party.

Since enemy damage goes through the roof when the enemy is a lot higher higher than you, this limits the kind of enemies you can get PL on... unless you want to risk the low level player getting one shot against enemies 10 levels higher.

Thank god someone else said it. Content while leveling up is so damn irrelevant, I don't quite understand why people keep on harping on this drum about "blowing through the low to mid level content with powerleveling or leveling is too easy". Since when did low-mid grade content ever matter in any MMO? Even FFXI had some low-mid level content but no one really did it, EF's weren't popular, garrison I might of saw done 5 total times, eco quests? laughable, rarely ever done even in the beginning of the game, BCNM? open to interpretation since it level capped you.

Just because the method of leveling was terrible back in the day in XI that took way longer than it should have is a very poor comparison when talking about how leveling should be in XIV.

I mean is the motivation here just crafters that are afraid their low-mid rank gear won't sell because people are leveling "too fast"?

Is the motivation here just good ol fashion XI masochism "I <3 Tanaka so much plz make leveling up torture!!! <3" where 5k/hr exp should be the norm or its too fast?

Is it just trolling for the sake of trolling on the forums?

I really just don't understand why theres so much bitching over stuff that doesn't even effect anyone, is there any difference over a power leveler camped ontop of my party vs another party of the same level camps onto of us? either way both situations suck and yes, both situations have happened recently to me on the game that led to a slow down of exp but shit happens, our fault for going to a popular camp.

I think part of it comes from people being pissed they grinded hardcore and now that it's simple to level they are butt hurt they wasted so much time.

All I have to say to them then is boofuckinghoo, I leveled the same way as most people did with leve linking the same 8 leve's with some hard grind thrown in between leve cooldowns and I could careless about how fast joe or jane is leveling up.

Before WoW made racing to endgame the status quo. I realize you might not like it but for people who play a MMORPG like a RPG and not a race to get the shinies first so you can win the e-peen waving contest, the low to mid levels are where you get familiarized with the world and its lore. And sure it might suck to have to redo the grind for multiple alts or classes but it keeps the game friendly to new players.
