OOT and Link's Awakening for me.
Link to the Past then Wind Waker, those two are by far my favorites. Majora's Mask is also a really good game and I liked the time traveling aspect of it. Never played any of the handhelds though.
Link to the Past was just a game that I couldn't stop playing when I was younger and every time I was at my uncle's I would sleep as little as possible to play as much as possible. Loved the music, and the world it existed in felt so big when I was younger that it was entrancing. Wind Waker was able to recreate that effect for me later in life, which is why I loved that game so much.
Also, neither game is one that's stunted by nostalgia. There are quite a few games I remember being terrific then I go back and it's just difficult to play them and the experience isn't as good, but neither suffer from that.
LTTP by far for me was the most amazing zelda game, to this day i can just waste my time playing it and never get bored. 2nd for me would be Link's Awakening.
Edit: Worst time for me while i was a freshmen in high school where i was pretty fucking depressed for a while was having my Game Boy Color stolen w/ my Pokemon Red and Link's Awakening DX. I never bothered finding another copy of the game and having to start over pokemon red wasn't the same as my first time. What bugged me a lot was that I was mowing lawns during the summer transitioning from middle school to high school to actually save up for my GBC w/ link's awakening.
Glad LTTP is getting the love it deserves. LTTP > WW > MM > LA for me. Season games were pretty fun too. I have played LTTP so many times and still enjoy every second of it.
also dat theme
I'd have to say that my favorite is a tie between Link to the Past and Wind Waker. LTTP perfected the top down Zelda formula, and Wind Waker really refined and polished the battle system of OoT. Some people cannot get past the cel shaded graphins of WW, but the gameplay was top notch. I always thought OoT was great, but a few control issues/camera annoyed me a bit, not enough to undervalue the quality of the overall game, but just little annoyances that WW fixed (for the most part).
It was indeed a great game, but it was hardly difficult. Maybe it was harder than most others in the series, but that doesn't really say much.majoras mask was a great game, in fact it was more difficult than most of the series and it was fun.
Anyway, my favorite was definitely OOT, followed by MM. I don't really care for the 2d zeldas that much. They are still good games, and i have played and enjoyed all of them, but the gameplay doesn't even come close to that of the 3d games, imo. And especially with oot/mm with all the glitches, i find the replay value to be incredibly high (i've easily put over 1000-2000 hours into oot), because there is simply a million different ways to play the games. When i first played through oot more than a decade ago, i thought "oh cool, i can do the fire and water temples completely before the forest!". Which amuses me to no end, since i've actually beaten every dungeon in reverse order, starting with the spirit temple, and finishing with the deku tree. it's just amazing how differently i play the game today than i did years ago.
never played a zelda game
but i did like how wind waker looked visually so ill go with that one!
I would go with Twilight Princess if I had to pick one. I enjoyed all of them, but that one had the best gameplay by far (go back to previous zelda after playing it and you will see how big of an improvement it is), and the story was neat. Not to mention that Midna is the best sidekick Link had (screw Navy and Tatl)
Wind Waker had amazing visual, and a bunch of good idea, but it was missing a world. Sailing is only fun for so long.
YES^ plus dat Windfish!
Also first time I played LA I was very young and actually couldn't find the next dungeon (Catfish's Maw) so stopped playing it and picked it up a while later and finally got around to beating it. Totally worth it for the ending/wind fish egg song. Was also my first gameboy game which I got w/ my GB.

I'm having a hard time discerning between major nostalgia goggles and my actually favorite game.
I think a sliding scale going from most nostalgic good, down to most objective good, I would go:
A Link to the Past
Ocarina of Time
Twilight Princess
The Wind Waker
For nostalgia reasons, I would choose Ocarina of Time or Link to the Past. Overall though, I would have to choose Twilight Princess as my favorite.
Definitely A Link to the Past. I spent my entire summer searching for everything it had to offer when I was kid. It was also the first game I purchased myself, I was pretty pumped.
While I played the shit out of OoT, I played the shit out of the shit out of LttP. I even use the darkworld theme as my ringtone, with the world music as my alarm clock.
My sister got me into LttP and helped me with some thing in it, as I was only 5(?) when it came out. I just couldn't stop playing that game. Although OoT is a VERY close 2nd for me... and I mean VERY close.
I never really got into many other zeldas. I played the ones on NES, and one or 2 more, as well as some of phantom hourglass (can't get into it), and half of twilight princess (again, can't get into it, but I really should finish it.)
To be honest, I liked all the Zelda games, except for Spirit Tracks.. that game was just... terrible.
I am so proud of BG right now.
A Link to the Past is in my top 3 games ever. I play it once a year on console with my cousins and play through it regularly on my emulator.
Ocarina was wicked fun and I still have it for 64.
Everything before those were fun but not amaze-balls.
I haven't played a single one after OoT. I don't own a Wii and don't play on buying one. Also don't have a DS or anything.
i liked all the Zelda games which i think is sad but enjoying Zelda is something we all love and i picked MM because been 9 years old and been able to be a gorgon is badass!
My father, who isn't a gamer at all, played LttP extensively. I think that's enough for me to rank it as one of the top three at least.
For me personally, a tie between Awakening & OoT. The main problem for me was that I was a poor sod back in the N64/PSX era, and I never got to experience much in the way of 3D action/adventure games while also only being limited to the N64 console, so I had no idea how revolutionary OoT really was until I decided to try out some earlier N64/PSX games (via the wonders of emulation) many moons later and realizing just how horrible they all were due to lack of refinement in the controls and camera.
Awakening was probably the most played game on my original GameBoy next to Pokemon Blue. Clocked over 60 hours in both of them easily.
Spoiler: show
LttP for sure, but I have to admit once they went away from the top down style I couldn't play due to 1st or close 3rd person action-esque making me sick. I do remember having LA, but don't recall playing it much, most of my GB time was on FF Legends I think. I also liked 1 and 2 very much back in the day.
