So i got robbed :(

and im looking for anyone with some sort of previous experience. this is the situation:
i live in an apartment. the only way to enter is through your room card ID keys. not literal turn keys.
my ROOM, however has a door lock and the only way to get in is with a room card key. i leave my door locked constantly. its just my way. i have my keys on me 24/7.

i locked my door.

my apartment door locks by itself. its incredibly fool proof and the ONLY way to get in is through this card key.

i left around 7:30 and came back around 2am.

my door is open and my asus monitor is missing, my psp, ps3, and camera are gone.

i call the campus police and file a report.

they examine the lock and concluded that the knife on my PC desk was used to brake into my door lock and get this stuff. i live 3 stories up so they didnt break through my window.

the ONLY way these burglars could've gotten in is through my roomate's card, mine or the RA.

my roommate is a 19-20 year old hippy country dumb fuck who lost his key about 3 days ago. he's about 130 lbs, 5'5 and is growing his hair into dreads that smells like straight ass crack. i would rather put my face in the ass of a dead horse than smell his shit. he smoked pot in here, and there's only sooooo much stuff i can put up with. but im patient. im no ethug, or a bully and i know how to reason with people. i came home from the school gym one night and found my door open once. he lost the key so this was his only way of getting in. however, i told him he needed to get it replaced. he probably grew up in nice neighborhoods or whatever, but i wasnt having it.


so like i said. the reason these crooks came in here in the 1st place was through HIS card that he either lost, and didnt report stolen, or his new card, and i dont know what steps i should take next.

1) i live on campus. its an apartment, but its ON CAMPUS. no drugs, alcohol, whores, allowed etc

2) there are 2 locks.

a) the master lock from the hallway that connects to the main door to the hallway, similar to hotel rooms. the ONLY way to get in through the main lock is through a temp ID card key (which will be in the system), our i.d.'s (which will be in the system), or a master key (which will be in the system, too)

b) our bedroom door locks. i locked mine before i left. they took a butcher knife from the kitchen and jimmied the door lock with it. there are scrape marks on the lock itself and the police took pics. they left the knife on my desktop table, and hopefully there are prints, but i don't know the procedure of forensics for burglary cases. i doubt they would want to spend that money on a non-murder or something of a more sever litigation based violation.

3) the security cameras here don't work. the police officer made a mistake and said himself, that "they were fake".

4) getting any kind of affidavit of the campus locksmith saying the exact words of "this lock was uninstalled improperly, and was faulty to being with" is proving to be an impossible task. i had 3 witnesses when he claimed it. the campus security guard, my good friend, and the RA. The RA already claimed she can't sign it without the consent of the campus safety council and they have to review it specifically before they hand it to her. which tells me:
a) the school will refute any responsibility and are doing whatever they can do cover their tracks. this is expected. it's the real world. but I'll keep trying.
b) If they do somehow manage to edit my claim, they will use something along the words of "the lock has been fixed now" which really doesn't do me any good. they got through once before, they can do it again. replacing it with the same type of lock is useless.

5) Crook claimed he went to Knoxville for the weekend on his 20th bday. But it was his i.d. that went through the door on saturday, and i have logs to prove it was his ID that signed in. Its official. Read this again:

IT WAS HIS ID. THAT WENT THROUGH THE DOOR. ON SAAAA-- TURRRR-- DAEEEEEYYYAHHH.

the police suspected this from the beginning, but didn't hint to us since it probably would've gotten me wound up.

6) the Police tried to get in contact with him yesterday, since school is today. He was only supposed to be gone for the weekend. They called me 1st, and asked for his cell. I gave it to him. 5 min later, i get a call from Crookl. He was incredibly nervous, and jittery. Yet, he didnt seem the least bit concerned about his belongings or the situation i was. I played dumb and acted like i knew of nothing. i dont want to give out any hints that i know clearly what's going on. He wanted me to say something. It was clear he was trying to bait me into saying something, but i stayed quiet, and he hung up suddenly. i called back. he answered, and hung up. it happened like 4x in a row. i waited 15 min and had Tara, my best friend talk to him, just to tell him i was concerned. He claimed he had nothing to be stolen and here are the key words he said, that we recorded. "i had my keys on me the entire time. i didnt lend it out, and i found it after i lost it"

so there it is. He claims he had the key the entire time. yet, it was his key that entered my apartment on sat night. at 2pm, i will have a printout on exactly when it was and when they left. One thing is clear. they were watching me. they saw everything i was doing through the windows or peepholes of our neighbors.

the police told me NOT to give out any hints to the neighbors that im concerned since it will only give mike more time to come up with a legit alibi, and they would rather have him on a surprise. Kind of hard to do that when you fucking call him ahead of time, really.

7) i have no concrete evidence linking him to the robbery. legally, that one statement only proves he's a liar. not a thief. the police aren't dumb. they are with me in a sense that they too, know he's not good at covering his tracks. he was very clumsy about various things. i still dont know if he had friends do it with him, but my only hope is that the fingerprints will have some sort of match with anyone having a record if they do run it. But that's all i can see. If anyone see's any loopholes. for the love of God, tell me. i need anything to get my hopes up on this. Right now, i really just want any sort of legal justice. Even if i never get my stuff back again, i NEVER want anyone to have to go through this ever again.

8 ) nothing in Crook's room was stolen. His door was also perfectly fine.

ps: he's loaded. his parents are rich as fuck, and they could reimburse me without thinking twice. but i really doubt it will come down to the acts of civil acting individuals sympathetic to the 24 year old guy without any help from mommy, daddy, trust funds, rich uncles from bel air or anyone, struggling to make it and get good grades

Edit: Beaten. Wait to see what he says first. Don't go after him, see if he offers anything, if not, probably best to report this to campus police/RA/anyone who is above them on campus. And by "this" I mean that it's clearly his card that was stolen, unreported, cause of this, etc. Do not do any waiting, past waiting for your roommate to get in tomorrow. As soon as you get a response from him, start talking to people. Might be best to start talking to people now, but if he's got money in his family or something, there's a tiny chance he offers to replace it for you.

well, i dont see his laptop. but im 99% sure he took it with him to knoxville to his parents. but his room door was open afterwords. i was under the assumption he just came back too get something he forgot and just didnt lock his door. he's not like me, since i keep my locks on 24/7. he's way too laid back and is lucky im not a typical asshole and go rummaging through his crap lol. but right now, i dont know his situation. which, is why i need to be calm and act like nothing ever happened. if he really is involved, i need to bait out any hints or answers i can find without being direct, and maybe i can pursue this in a higher setting.

Gonna take a guess that whoever did it is also a campus resident, possibly in the same building as you. If your stuff hasn't been sold off already (call around to some local pawn shops, they usually take thefts pretty seriously), it's probably sitting in some idiot's room. Not sure what kind of policy your school has about searching their rooms, but I imagine there's something somewhere that doesn't guarantee explicit privacy from investigation, likely more for drugs or underage alcohol consumption, but stolen property could maybe trigger a look. If you know the monitor model, let them know in case such is possible.

The break in itself might be cause for you to get a new room and away from your dipshit roommate, but forcing him out is probably unlikely with no direct proof it was his doing.

This is why I never hang with potheads, the only fucking reason they live is to get high and nothing else matters. They will hold up traffic for hours just to get some or find someone who has a light if they forgot their lighter.

But yea that sucks but atleast your pc didn't get jacked. Other shit is replaceable but losing pictures/personal stuff that's usually on them is more of a headache.

lol yeah. im not going to judge him based on his decision to smoke pot. some of my closest friends are drug users. but i will for his attitudes towards the real world situations. if i lose a key, the FIRST fucking thing i do is get it replaced and report it stolen/lost. period. there is no ifs ands or butts. he didnt do that. and its partially my fault, because i was too easy going. he smokes on campus and in the room and is endangering my rights to be here, the kid left the door open for damn near 15 min after i came in from the gym. i thought he had a girl waiting or something, but when i finished making my meal, the door was still open. (meaning the master door. you can leave the lock out, despite the need to get in with an id card and hold it against he panel making it open) and this really just makes things worse.

i did start to get on bad terms with him when i made it clear that i wasnt going to buy beer for him and his dumbass pothead friends, that i dont want any house parties here and that im just trying to study, play my games, and do my thing without ever bothering him once. ugh

but yeah, if they took my PC, i would be fucking depressed more than i am now. there are things that i need in there for the rest of my life. if that gets deleted or gone from my life, that's like losing a pet lol. or a son or something. sounds creepy as hell, but its true

the room advisor was a 20 year old white girl from virginia who was sleeping when the police called her. i dont know anything about her, so i will not rule it out completely. however, my roommate still hasnt come back. im staying back at my place tonight, and to be honest. im not afraid for my life one bit lol. i hope these idiots do strike again for the PC or whatever else they missed. i got a $120 electric shaver that wasnt even moved. and my 2 TB external HD's, ps3 games, and blue ray stacks. but, i've come to the conclusion that no lock is fool proof. even the one on my door. all it takes is the action of 1 person to misplace it, and/or go to a RA with a temporary key and use it on mine. but the facts are too convenient. this little skinny country pothead roommate lost the keys to our front door like 3-4 days ago. the front dor is open more often so he can get in and out, even after i tell him to replace it. he leaves on thursday to go to knoxville for his 20th bday, and today, i got jacked while i was at my friend's LAN party. im very good about locking my door, and double checking it. but when the lock is faulty, i mightve just have had it open the entire time, lol.

im hoping i can get something out of all of this. this place is new. there ARE cameras. they used a knife from the kitchen to pick the lock on my door and left it there. but they probably had gloves on and had hoodies/ski masks making those things null and voided. the only hope i have is my roommate connecting the keys to the events of what happened which is still a bit far fetched since i have no concrete evidence of anything.
