I had one experience with food service. In that one experience, I lasted 5 minutes on the job. I was waiting tables for a grand opening of a restaurant that a friend had just opened. I told him I would help since he was short on staff. The first table I came up to, there was a lady that already looked snarky. The first thing she said to me was "My, don't you look chubby". I said fuck you, walked away, and never waited another table since then.

There are many stories I have from my years working as a light duty emergency road service driver (Light duty meant that we didn't tow vehicles). Most of my stories from that job consist of drunk drivers, crazy old ladies, people that haven't driven their car for 25 years, and the occasional stolen battery/wheels/stereo. The best stories are when I get a great tip. I have gotten plates of cookies, whole turkeys, whole pies, $50 bills(happened twice), I even got a bottle of wine and a $50 gift card to Cheesecake Factory from a hottie that I probably could have slept with if it wasn't for being married.

Fast food nightmares are horrible...those of you that are asshats in a fast food restaurant deserve everything you get when shit goes wrong. Being reasonable and nice will get you a lot farther than being a dick to the old lady working the register. I understand wanting things your way, but that sense of entitlement will get you jack shit if you try to bring your bullshit to me like that. If there is a problem, deal with it rationally and 9/10 times the problem will be solved to your satisfaction.

Also, karma's a bitch. Maybe it's your horrible behavior that keeps netting you that screwed up order.

I got mad at a store clerk for taking two other people ahead of me when I had been waiting at the counter before they were. Then she apologised profusely and said she didn't see me and I felt like a huge heel.

I've never had a bad experience, on the other hand, sometimes I get extra stuff lol. Then again I'm always friendly, a quick 'hey how are you?' and 'could I get x, please,' 'thank you, have a nice one,' never hurt. I'm not kissing their ass it's just that either one is a prick, the middle, or nice. It takes 0 calories to be nice to other peeps, it's a win win.

I think its pretty easy to tell those who have worked shitty minimum wage jobs and those who haven't. When you are on the retail side of it, you tend to be much more understanding and don't have that "customer is always right" mindset.

I worked at a Hardees for a few years in college, and did mess up orders on occasion. One of the biggest culprits was the cashier not bothering to type in or tell me about a special request sandwich. The other was just me working on auto-pilot and not even thinking. When I'm on the only person on backline and have 24 burgers on the grill, I dress them without thinking and mistakes happen.

As for not caring, there are times this is the absolute truth. If you are working 7 hours days (7 1/2 required for a lunch break in illinois), 5 days a week (but still only part-time) and have no benefits, of course the workers aren't going to be happy with the situation. You are doing whatever you can to get through the day, but its tough because you have to work when sick (no insurance and can't afford to lose 60 bucks you make that day), the store is understaffed so the manager can get a low payroll bonus, raises and promotions don't exist no matter how many employee of the month plaques you have, then yeah, shit happens and we don't care.

I remember when I worked at a department store I never went a week without some dumbshit customer accusing us of fraud, bait and switch, or some other illegal sales tactic. Of course 10 times out of 10 it was their failure to actually read what the ad said instead of looking at the pictures and assuming shit. We also had two registers in the same spot that faced opposite directions, and sure enough every time I worked alone some asshole would walk up to the register behind me and bitch when I didn't ring them up right away. They wanted to train me to be a department manager and I basically said "Fuck no, I'm not working 60 hours a week at this shit job for $28k a year".

I've had pretty good luck with fast food and restaurants so I can't complain too much there, though recently I ordered a Sausage, Egg, and Cheese McGriddle that only had a piece of cheese between the pancake patties. How they screwed that one up is beyond me.

Customers come up to me and ask if we have a product featured in the ad in the back because we're out of them on the sales floor. Okay, no problem let me go check for you. Turns out we don't have any so I go back and tell them we're out. "Well it's in your ad, why would it be in your ad if you don't have any!" Getting all pissy at me. Yeah I'll just go to the back of our small store and tell all the photographers, models, and graphic artists that they messed up making the advertisement because we don't have any more of a particular blender in stock. Fucking retarded customers.

Got my shit, left. Riding my bike, took a bite, not only was it cold as shit, but had a fuckton of mayo, which almost caused me to fall off my shit lol. I wasn't prepared for that nasty shit.

I work at a high end grocery store and there is one lady that everyone HATED because she wasn't really mean....just incredibly blunt and assumed a bit too much. Like my first day she said "Oh you're new here so you don't know anything about fish" even though I had been a chef for a few years, some of which included sushi....

Every time she came in I was never rude, never talked back, and kept making it a point to have me help her and none of the other guys.

Now I am her favorite person in the store and she is eeeasssilllly one of the nicest customers I have. She will buy whatever I tell her to and always has a smile on her face.

Point: If you try hard enough you can turn even the people you first assumed were the worst.

    Incoming wall-o-text!

I work at Del Taco. For anyone who hasn't lived in CA...it's popular. Not In-n-Out popular, but still. It’s by far the worst job I’ve ever worked…and the most difficult. I work my ass of for $9.50 an hour. (That’s shift leader pay. Regular employees make minimum wage.)

    My manager:
-Only gives raises to the cooks, not to the cashiers
-Won’t give any sort of pay bonuses for working holidays
-Thinks it’s appropriate to discipline employees by berating them in front of everyone
-Regularly forgets to order crucial ingredients
    -Blatantly plays favorites
Probably too late to matter but if you are a full time employee (I think it's 37.5 hours a week or more?) you are required by law to get time and a half for working the 4'th, memorial day, thanksgiving, christmas and one more (I think labor day???)

It'd be quite easy to sue the hell out of them if they didn't and refused.

Sweet, another place to rage about customers. Currently working at Aeropostale and generally, the customers are pretty great. However, when the bitchy, douchebags come in, boy, they know how to make themselves memorable.

    1. Little asian lady comes in and wants to buy a jacket with a slight crease on it. She demands a discount for that a jacket, where the crease was barely noticeable until she pointed it out to me. Told her we can't do that, so she gets butthurt and demands to speak to the manager. She says the same thing which prompts the lady to tell us we're selling damaged clothing and shouting it in front of other customers in her cute little accent where I could barely understand most of what she was saying. Keep in mind, asian women are known for wanting things perfect but damn, its the last size we have that you need so take the "creased" jacket because I know you don't want to waste more time going to a different store.

    2. Another asian lady grabs a pair of sweatpants with a $7.99 sticker on its tag. Its rung up for $12 but she is damn adamant on getting it for $7.99. That specific pair was the only one that had that sticker on it as the entire stack didn't have any sticker on its tags...but she demanded we give it to her for $7.99. My manager decides to rip the sticker off and shouts at me that she took the sticker off thinking I'll do something. First, the price listed on the tag at our store is rarely, if not never, the actual price when rung up, even if there is a clearance sticker on it. We didn't give it to her for $7.99 so she decides to not get them anyway. Didn't want to spend $12 while giving up your extra grande for the week at Starbucks?

Holidays are coming up, bound to be more soon as I got transferred.

My policy was if a customer said that something was cheaper than it was then I ALWAYS gave it to them for that price. At the beginning I always called my manager and asked, but after a while I realized how little $1-5 means to the company/my managers... Like I give a shit if someone saves $2. Seriously. I would've just given it to her for 8 bucks.

I work at bed bath and beyond, and it isnt all that bad tbh; but we work hard and our customers know well give them the best deal/treat them good. Guess im lucky though =).

If something at the store is marked lower then it rings up, we give it to them for that price. Its not a law or anything, but its courteous, and it really is our fuck up even if the rest are marked correctly. Like above said, 5 bucks isnt a whole lot when im marking up most of my merch 50% or more, especially when it keeps the sale and brings a happy customer back. Have a shitty policy/attitude towards a customer and youll only attract shitty customers.

And cs, youre too poor to be eatting out all the time; wth?

Dollar menu stuff is actually cheaper than most of my options other than ramen. Everything else matches the price roughly. Chinese is like a once a month thing though lol.

I really don't know if its true or not but our systems can somehow track if a price is modified beyond its actual sale price to catch "special hookups". Paranoia ensues at our store because of that.
